Xiaomi India Mi 20000 mAh Power Bank Review

At the Redmi Note 3 launch event held in New Delhi this month, Xiaomi also gave away their 20000 mAh power banks, which are yet to come on sale in India though. We got our hands on the power bank and here I am doing the review for this power bank. I’ll let you know how the power bank performs and is it any good or should you go and purchase some other power bank. Let’s get started with this review then.

The Mi 20000 mAh comes only in white color with glossy edges, textured back and front and a matte finish top and bottom. The design of the power bank is elegant and definitely looks like a premium one.

On the front of the power bank, you’ll find a textured finish with the Xiaomi Logo at the bottom of the front side.

Xiaomi Mi 20000mAh Power Bank Hardware

The Xiaomi Mi 20000mAh power bank comes with Quick Charge 2.0 for the input port, meaning if you connect the power bank with a quick charger, it will charge really quickly. In terms of the battery that it comes packed with, it comes with dual Li-Ion batteries inside, which is a mixture of Panasonic and LG batteries.

The circuit in the power bank comes with 9S circuit protection from Texas Instruments, one of the best you can get in the market. It protects the device from getting overcharged, protects it from short circuit, temperature control and also has output overcurrent protection.

This makes the Mi 20000 mAh power bank a really safe and good power bank to use. Because of the quality of the batteries and the circuit used in the power bank, the conversion rate and the performance of the power bank is just as you would expect from a good company’s power bank.

Charging Time and Performance

The performance of a power bank is the thing that gets the users to buy it, and Xiaomi has proven that they can make really good power banks with this power bank. This power bank delivers the performance that you would expect it to.

In terms of the battery capacity and the conversion that it does, it was able to charge my Nexus 6, which has a beefy 3220mAh battery, completely from 5% to 100% 4 times, and after completing this charge, it still had some battery left to get me from 30% to 40%. The time needed to charge the phone using the power bank was nearly the same as it was from a 5V/2Amp wall charger.

The time to charge the power bank itself was really impressive. I was able to charge the power bank from completely 0% to 100% in about 5 hours, which is really impressive for a power bank of this capacity. This is possible because of the Quick Charge 2.0 compatibility for the input microUSB port on the power bank.

Xiaomi Mi 2000mAh Power Bank Pricing and Availability

The box that the Xiaomi Mi 20000 mAh power bank came in lists the price of the power bank to be 1,699 INR, but we are not sure if this is the accurate pricing for the Indian market or not. Right now, the power bank is not officially available in India, but there are some sellers selling it on eBay in India for a higher price. If you want to get the phone from China, you can buy it on the popular Chinese E-Commerce websites like BangGood, AliExpress, GearBest etc.

Verdict

Overall, the performance of the Mi 20000mAh power bank impressed me. I was happy to see the phone getting charged just as it would have with the normal charger, and then using a power charger to charge the Power Bank was an added advantage in my view. Also, the power bank is really light and does not feel 20000 mAh at all. It weighs almost the same as the 10400 mAh one, in my opinion, based on the feel in the hand only its slightly bigger.
