Earlier this month, at the Samsung Forum 2016, Samsung launched two new devices, the Galaxy A7 2016 and the Galaxy A5 2016. The Galaxy A7 is priced at INR 33,400 and is available starting today. Here in this article, today, I am bringing you the unboxing, quick overview, gaming, camera and benchmarks for the Samsung Galaxy A7 2016.

The box for the Galaxy A7 2016 is a golden coloured rectangular box with the Galaxy A7 branding on the top, showcasing the front and back of the device. At the back of the box, you’ll find the key specifications and other information about the phone.

After opening the box, you’ll find the phone sitting on the top with a divider compartment for the accessories and the literature.

Inside the box, you’ll find a Fast Adaptive Charger, a microUSB Cable, an SIM Ejector tool and the quick start guide along with the other literature. All these contents are placed in the bottom compartment of the box.

Physical Overview

The phone features a metal-glass combo build all over the device. The front of the device features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Just above the screen, you’ll find the Samsung branding along with the earpiece and the secondary camera. Below the screen, you’ll find the touch capacitive buttons and a physical Home button that houses the fingerprint scanner for the device.

On the back of the device, you’ll find the primary camera, which is a 13-megapixel shooter, and along with that, you’ll find the LED flash. The back features a Corning Gorilla Glass as well.

The top of the phone features a secondary microphone for noise cancellation and an SIM tray.

On the right edge of the phone, you’ll find the power button and the other SIM tray that houses 1 SIM card and 1 microSD card.

The left edge of the phone features the volume rocker, which has a nice tactile feedback on click.

At the bottom edge of the phone, you’ll find the I/O which includes the 3.5mm headphone jack along with a microUSB charging port and a single speaker.

Gaming Performance

The Samsung Galaxy A7 2016 is powered by a Samsung Exynos Octa 7580 CPU, which is an octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. The CPU is accompanied by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. This storage can be increased by using a microSD card, though.

For testing the gaming performance of the Galaxy A7 2016, I played Dead Trigger 2 and Modern Combat 5 on the phone. The phone did not heat much but heated a little. Here are the battery drop and temperature increase for the phone when playing both these games.

Camera Performance

The primary camera on the Galaxy A7 2016 is a 13-megapixel shooter, whereas the secondary camera is a 5-megapixel shooter. The primary camera is accompanied by an LED flash that helps in taking low light shots on the phone. Overall, the quality of the phone’s camera is remarkable. It produced some great shots using the primary as well as the secondary camera.

For testing the benchmark of the Galaxy A7 2016, which comprises of the exact same hardware that the Galaxy A5 2016 has, except for the screen, I followed a similar approach. I ran the benchmark scores using Antutu, Geekbench 3, Quadrant Standard and Nenamark 2. Here are the tabulated results for the same.

Verdict

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A7 2016 is similar to the Galaxy A5 2016 in terms of the hardware. The Galaxy A7 2016 has a bigger screen at 5.5-inches. The gaming and camera performance of the device is pretty good and the phone did not show any signs of lagging during my usage with the phone.
