The Vivo NEX smartphone comes with the best hardware available right now; Snapdragon 845 and 8GB RAM. The smartphone is priced at Rs 44,990 which makes it the direct competition to the OnePlus 6 (8GB RAM and 256GB Storage variant). Let’s see if this phone delivers everything Vivo promised and if the smartphone worth your money, in this quick initial impressions.

Build and Design

Vivo has done a really great job in making the smartphone premium, the phone is all glass including the rear panel. The back of the smartphone is super smooth, there is a pixelated-rainbow pattern going on at the back which shimmers in the light. The rear glass panel is curved which makes it easier and comfortable to hold despite the large form factor.

The smartphone has the volume rocker and power button on the right side and on the left is the dedicated Google Lens button. The top of the phone has the retractable front camera slot, the secondary microphone, and the 3.5mm audio port. The bottom side has the loudspeaker, mic, SIM card tray and USB Tye C port.

The “Ultra FullView” Display

The Vivo NEX smartphone comes with a 6.59 inches FHD+ Super AMOLED display with 91.3 percent screen to body ratio. The smartphone features no notch or bezel on the display, there is a thin strip on the chin to call it a bezel. The display comes with the fingerprint sensor placed below it, it is a small spot where the sensor is located.

The display is Super AMOLED which makes is even more satisfying to look at. It produces amazing colors and contrast in the images and videos. There is also an Always-on display feature which shows time on the display when it is sleep and thanks to AMOLED technology, it takes a minimum fraction of the battery.

The “Elevating” camera

One of the main attraction of the Vivo NEX smartphone is the elevating front facing camera which looks like it came right out of a ‘James Bond’ movie. The front-facing camera pops up every time whenever you need it without fail. The camera elevates completely in one second and takes really great selfies with AI technology.

The rear camera is a dual lens setup which includes a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization, paired with a 5MPsensor with f/2.0 aperture size. The camera features an 8MP camera at the front (or inside?) for selfies with AI selfie features. The rear camera is capable of shooting 4K 30 fps videos and can capture Slo-mo videos up to 480 fps.

Performance

The Vivo NEX comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor running at the stock clock frequency of 2.8GHz. It is further paired with the Adreno 630 for best gaming performance and 8GB RAM for smoother multitasking experience. The smartphone features 128GB of internal storage which is not expandable.

The battery in Vivo NEX is a massive 4000 mAh which easily provides one full day of battery backup, you don’t need to rush for the charger at the end of the day. And when you do, the smartphone is equipped with dual engine fast charging technology which charges the smartphone faster so you will be ready to do whatever you are doing.

Conclusion

The Vivo NEX is a benchmark of 2018’s smartphone, where every other brand is copying the iPhone X’s notch design. Vivo came to the market with something new and extraordinary. The elevating camera sure looks cool and captures great selfies too. According to us, the Vivo NEX smartphone is a great deal and can be taken into consideration when you are looking for a smartphone with a budget of Rs 40,000 to 45,000.
