Xolo Q900s Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Few days back, Xolo unveiled worlds lightest phone Xolo Win Q900s running Windows Phone 8.1 based on Qualcomm Reference Design hardware and now Xolo has listed another variant of the same, running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with most other hardware specifications remaining the same. This one is also equality light at 100 grams and extremely slim with only 7.2 mm thick body.

Camera and Internal Storage

Xolo has used the same OmniVision PureCel power efficient 8 MP sensor as in Xolo Win Q900s. Xolo hasn’t mentioned if this can be used to record HD videos, but it’s not very likely. Other features include 2 MP rear camera, LED flash, Panorama, burst Mode and Brightness control. Most other phones offer similar imaging hardware in this price range.

Internal storage is 8 GB, which is standard for Windows Phone 8.1 devices but a much appreciated feature in Budget Android range. Since the storage is expandable by another 32 GB, it won’t be a deal breaker for most but if you are looking for more you can consider XonPhone 5 with 16 GB native storage.

Processor and Battery

Since the phone follows the same Qualcomm reference design pattern as other recently launched Windows Phone 8.1 devices, you will get 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 MSM8212 at the helms with 4 Cortex A7 based cores and Adreno 302 GPU. RAM capacity is 1 GB, which is again standard in this price segment.

Battery capacity is 1800 mAh and Xolo Promises 246 hours of Standby time, 5.5 hours of Web Browsing, 3G talk time of 14 hours which seems decent enough. The battery supports Qualcomm Quick Charge, which enables it to charge to 100 percent in under 2 hours 30 minutes.

Display and Other Features

The OGS IPS LCD display is 4.7 inches in size similar to Win Q900s but pixels have been reduced to one fourth with quarter HD 960 x 540 resolution in place of HD. This reduces pixel density to 234 ppi. The display is protected by scratch resistant Dragon Trail glass. Since the 5 point multi touch display is an IPS LCD panel with OGS tech support, you can expect good viewing angles.

The Dual SIM phone runs on Android 4.3 Jelly bean which is upgradeable to Android 4.4 KitKat. Other features include accelerometer, light sensor, magnetic sensor, proximity sensor, Bluetooth and aGPS.

Comparison

It will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Redmi Note, Xolo Q1011, Zenfone 5 and XonPhone 5

Conclusion

Xolo Q900s does appear expensive for its price tag. With several tier one manufacturer’s lining up in the budget price range, only things working in its favor ar the slim and sleek body design, Quick Charge (not Quick Charge 2.0) and extremely light weight. If these highlights rank high on your priority list, go ahead and buy one for 9,999 INR.
