ZTE V5 First Hands on, Unboxing, Review, Camera, Features, User Interface and Overview

Design, Build and Display

ZTE V5 is a nicely crafted device which fits well in hands. Matter finish Back cover is removable and gives the device a nice feel. The back side is neat and slightly curved. The Audio jack is present on the top. The circular capacitive button, which we have seen on other Nubia devices as well, adds to its looks. Other hardware keys also give good feedback.

The 5 Inch IPS LCD Display has been sourced from Sharp and the display also flaunts OGS technology for closer display experience. The display colors, brightness and viewing angles are good. ZTE has also provided with Dragontrail glass protection on top.

Processor and RAM

ZTE V5 employs Qualcomm budget star Snapdragon 400 quad core SoC clocked at 1.2 GHz. The quad core processor with Cortex A7 cores and Adreno 305 GPU has proven itself over time and we are happy to see it in this price range. The chipset is aided by 1 GB RAM out of which around 350 GB is free. UI transactions were smooth in spite of Customized UI

Camera and Internal Storage

Camera hardware in ZTE V5 is impressive and one of the best that you can find in this price range. The 13 MP camera with Sony Xmore RS sensor, Blue Glass Composite filter and 5 element high precision optical lens seems to work well on this device.

ZTE has also highlighted the selfie camera on this one. The 5 MP camera has 88 degree wide angle lens and BSI sensor. The low light performance of Selfie camera was decent. The camera app also comes with a Horizon which is something we like. There are several other options listed in the camera app which we will test later in our full review. Both front and rear camera can record full HD videos, which is something we like on this smartphone.

Internal storage is ZTE V5’s Achilles heel. With all other glorious hardware on board, ZTE has opted for 4 GB internal storage, in times where most manufacturers have moved on to 8 GB model. Apps can be transferred to SD card, but the 1.6 GB left for apps will not suffice for power users. You can use up to 32 GB MicroSD secondary storage as well.

User Interface and Battery

ZTE V5 runs on Android 4.3 jelly bean with Nubia 2.0 Interface on top. The UI is very simple and lag free as well. There is no App drawer or much preloaded bloat ware. You get Snapdeal app, FM Radio and Equalizer pre installed on this smartphone.

Battery capacity is 2400 mAh and considering Snapdragon 400 and HD Display, this sounds pretty good on paper. We will comment more on the battery backup after our full review, but we are optimistic about it.

Conclusion

ZTE V5 seems to do everything just right except for limited storage. In case you are looking for a good camera smartphones, ZTE V5 is one of the best options you can get for as low as 10,999 as of now, with due attention paid to both front and rear camera units as well as Camera app.
