These days telecommunication companies don’t want to miss out any opportunity to show down to each other. Sunil Mittal, Chairman of Airtel wants cancellation of Reliance Jio’s license in the highly sensitive state, Jammu & Kashmir for security breach. According to Airtel approximately 7 lakh users were claimed to be post-paid user although being pre-paid customers which is a ‘blatant manipulation and violation of directions.’ However Jio has rejected such allegation.
Airtel claims that Jio has classified 95% of its subscribers in the state as post-paid users even though they are actually pre-paid customers. Security agencies has instructed to stop pre-paid services in the sensitive state, Jammu and Kashmir as it causes security breach. Airtel said, “This act on the part of RJIL could jeopardise the move to block the telecommunication services to the prepaid customers from the very root,”
However Jio completely denies on such allegation as “completely baseless, malicious and tantamount to willful disparagement against RJIL”. Moreover Jio claimed it to be “act of retaliation” as Jio was the one to raise the issue of Airtel allowing incoming calls for prepaid subscribers in Kashmir valley despite of the order to stop prepaid services from the J&K government.
Airtel also pointed out that Jio has admitted of being no clear distinction between postpaid and prepaid users as they are availing the services by paying in advance. All the connections are instantly activated in postpaid without even doing any kind of address verification or without generating any bills which doesn’t actually happens in case of postpaid services generally.
In response Jio said, “There are no differences in the stipulated process to be followed for on boarding prepaid or post-paid customers. Each of the processes has been strictly followed by RJIL in accordance with the stringent norms and guidelines prescribed by the Department of Telecom and the J&K government with regard to subscriber acquisition in the state,”

On the Security breach case, Airtel said, “By violating the subscriber verification guidelines, RJIL has caused a serious security breach and is therefore liable for punitive action in terms of clause 39.11(i) of the unified licence…the act of providing the services to prepaid customers by fraudulently disguising these customers as postpaid customers has seriously compromised the security of the state as well. Hence, a more stringent action by the cancellation of license of J&K service area should be taken, in line with clause 10.1 (ii) of the unified licence agreement,”
