Apple iPhone X scam: Fraudulent website selling iPhone X for $1 in India

We have just come across an Internet scam where a fraudulent website is selling iPhone X for 1$ in India. A website named eketchreview.com is selling Apple’s flagship iPhone X for only 1$. The website is meant for stealing the credit or debit card details of the users.

Surprisingly, the website is using our founder Mr. Abhishek Bhatnagar’s image to make it look like genuine. When Abhishek got to know about the scam, he checked the website. He found that a person named Sahil was selling iPhone X for 1$. “This is how Indians get the new Apple iPhone X for only $1,” reads the title of the only article published on the website.

What’s the scam?

The website with domain name ektechreview.com is not even listed on Google and when you search it won’t appear on search result page. However, they seem to have purchased the domain to make such frauds. They have even created a fake landing page.

The interesting part of the scam is, they are using Abhishek Bhatnagar’s image from GadgetsToUse’s iPhone X Unboxing video. According to them, the person in the picture is some Sahil Prabhu who claims to have got the iPhone X for $1.

The fake site further adds a statement from Sahil explaining, “At first, I thought this was just another internet scam, but then I did some research and saw that RUniverse is a legitimate distribution company and Apple’s partner. I decided to risk $1, it’s less than a cup of coffee anyway. 5 Days later, I checked my mail and was delighted to see a shiny new box with the Apple logo on it.”

As mentioned, they are doing the same for stealing the bank details of users and they have created a landing page for payments. They write that this is marketing of some RUinverse who they claim is a partner of Apple. “All of this being part of a marketing strategy, Apple is working with RUniverse, its reliable distribution partner, to offer iPhone X phones more than 99% cheaper than retail price,” the article says.

They have created fake links that only redirects to the fake landing page that is landing.radiuniverse.com. Here they ask for your details and after filling these personal details like name, phone number, email, area PIN etc, they will take you the payment page. Here they will ask your card details for $1 payment. They have even got the secure payments page, which is not a big deal.

They have even posted some comments below the article to make it look more genuine. However, all these also seem fake and it looks like they are also using other people’s pictures to make such comments. Also, with such scam, they might have even scammed a few users and might have stolen their data.

So, we want to inform all our readers that all such offers and schemes are only scams that will steal your details and you might end up losing your money. If you come across any such fake offer, don’t click that link and report it if possible.
