Evan Blass, the man behind prolific and most trusted leak source, @Evleaks has announced his retirement from reporting further phone leaks. The reason for his abrupt departure was that he was unable to make enough money from his twitter stream.

“Trying to monetize a stream of Twitter leaks is not easy. First I tried monthly sponsorships. Then weekly. Then single sponsored tweets. I took donations – felt like online panhandling,” Said Blass.

Evan Blass had earlier worked as Senior Editor at Engadget and as Managing editor at PocketNow, before he started with @EVleaks as an anonymous tipster. He revealed his identity last year in an interview to Android Police.

Blass also made money by selling add space on his website Evleaks.at, but he also stated that, since most of his followers use Heavy Adblockers, he couldn’t generate much revenue.

Mostly accurate leaks from @EVleaks have been subjected to criticism and accolades for the past 2 years and we will miss Evans twitter handle. While fans will be dejected, perhaps it’s time for OEM’s to breath a sigh of relief. We are eager to see what Evan does next.
