In a race to deliver Android Marshmallow to their devices, Honor has stepped up and announced that they will be sending an OTA update for  their users of Honor 7 starting today, but there is a slight catch in the update that is made available by Honor.

While most mobile manufacturers provide updates to all their users, Honor has come up with a procedure for you to get the update. They are not providing this update to all their users directly. First of all, you will have to head over to a Google form that they have created and then enter in your details. These details will be pertaining to your Honor 7 phone. Honor has clearly mentioned in their Facebook post that only the users who register using that form will be eligible to get the update. This seems something similar to the invite system that OnePlus uses for users to purchase their devices. This is for the first time that we have seen such a thing for receiving an OTA update.

Steps to Follow to get the OTA Update

Honor7 Form

In order to get the OTA update, there is a procedure that I had mentioned before. Follow the steps mentioned below and you will be able to get the OTA update on your device.

  1. Head over to the Honor’s Google Form to fill out your details by clicking here.
  2. Now, you have to fill in the details. Head over to the settings on your device and in about, look for the Build number of the software that is currently installed. Also, you’ll be able to see your IMEI number here on this screen.
  3. Enter the information from this screen in the form, and then provide your email address and a contact number (optional).
  4. After you submit the form, you will get an OTA update on your device within 24 to 48 hours and your Honor 7 will be upgraded to the latest and the greatest Android Marshmallow.

Conclusion

It is good that Honor has come up with an Android Marshmallow update for their Honor 7 phone, but the way of registering your update with them using a Google form kind of feels absurd. It would have been much easier if they would just send the update to everyone, in batches if that’s what they want. Anyway, in order to get this OTA update on your device, just follow the steps mentioned above and you will be rocking the Android Marshmallow 6.0 on your device in no time.
