Gionee will soon add another smartphone to its portfolio, called the Gionee S3, which will have a slim profile and a large 5.2 Inch display. The handset is still in testing phase and will be available in India very soon.
Our sources reveal that Gionee S3 will be running Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, assumingly with Amigo UI customizations. Gionee S3 will be a Single SIM smartphone with expandable storage. We don’t know much about other hardware specifications of the device yet, but we expect Gionee to use a 64 bit SoC inside.
The MT6732 and MT6752 will be very tough competitors for Snapdragon 410 and Snapdragon 610 in the coming year and Gionee, who manufacturers its own devices has the potential for introducing the new chipset before others do.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop is the first Android version which supports 64 bit computing, but its adoption so far has been rather slow. Clever marketing and capable hardware has worked well for Gionee and made it a well established name in the country in a very short time.
The company has an advantage over other Chinese manufacturers trying to enter Indian market, as it has managed to develop a strong presence on the ground. We hope it can tackle the “online exclusives” by keeping the price in check for Gionee S3.
