IFA 2018: New phones from Blackberry, LG, HTC, Honor coming to India

IFA 2018 is being held in Germany’s capital city Berlin from August 31 to September 5. This is one of the biggest tech shows in the world that witnesses many gadgets and smartphone launches from tech giants across the world.

This year smartphone brands like BlackBerry, LG, HTC, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor, Sony, and Motorola attend the IFA event to showcase their latest devices. Here are covering the top smartphone launched at IFA 2018 until now and some of them will come to India.

BlackBerry KEY2 LE

Blackberry announced a new KEY2 LE smartphone at IFA 2018 which is a cheaper version of the KEY2 that was launched earlier this month. The KEY2 LE has a similar design to the KEY2 but differs in terms of specs. The KEY2 LE sports a 4.5-inch (1620 x 1080 pixels) display with 4-row QWERTY keyboard, a fingerprint sensor built into the spacebar and a Speed Key for customized shortcuts.

In terms of camera, the KEY2 LE sports a horizontal dual rear camera setup with a 13MP  primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and a 5MP secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture, dual tone LED flash. Up front, there is an 8MP fixed focus camera with selfie flash.


Under the hood, it is powered by Snapdragon 636 processor with 4GB of RAM, 64GB storage and a 3,000mAh battery with support for 18W Quick Charge 3.0. The BlackBerry KEY2 LE is priced at $399 (roughly Rs. 28,300) for the 4GB+ 32GB variant in the US.

LG G7 One

LG announced two new smartphones in its G7 lineup dubbed as G7 One and G7 Fit at IFA event. Both the phones are similar in terms of design but differ in terms of processor, storage, and operating system. The LG G7 One is the company’s first smartphone with Google’s Android One initiative and it is expected to come to India.

In terms of specs, the LG G7 One sports a 6.1-inch QHD+ notch display with a screen resolution of 3120×1440 pixels. It is powered by Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with Adreno 540 GPU, 4GB RAM, and 32GB of storage that is expandable up to 2TB via microSD. It runs stock Android 8.1 Oreo and packs a 3,000mAh battery.

In terms of camera, LG G7 One sports a 16MP primary camera with f/1.6 aperture. On the front, it sports an 8MP camera for selfies. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

HTC U12 Life

HTC, at IFA 2018 announced the U12 Life smartphone which looks like a sibling of the U12+ with its acrylic glass body. It has a dual finish featuring subtle stripes on the acrylic glass with a metal-like design. The mid-range HTC U12 Life sports a 6-inch Full HD+ 18:9 aspect ratio display. It is powered by Snapdragon 636 processor with 4GB of RAM.

In terms of camera, it has a dual rear camera setup with a 16-megapixel primary sensor alongside a 5MP secondary sensor to capture portrait shots. It has a 13-megapixel front camera with LED flash. It gets a 3600mAh battery. The HTC U12 Life is priced at £300 (Rs. 27,620 approx.).

Sony Xperia XZ3

Sony Mobile announced it’s latest flagship smartphone Xperia XZ3 at the IFA 2018. It sports a 6-inch QHD+ P-OLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It also has IP65/68 ratings for dust and water resistance. The XZ3 is powered by Snapdragon 845 processor and runs Android 9.0 Pie.

It sports a new Dual Motion Eye camera with 19-megapixel Exmor RS memory stacked sensor with support for 960 fps super slow-mo videos, predictive capture, and 5-axis image stabilization. There is a 13MP front-facing camera. It packs a 3300 mAh battery with support for fast charging and Qi wireless charging. The Sony Xperia XZ3 is priced at £699 (Rs. 63,742 approx.) and will be available globally in select markets starting from September.

Honor Magic 2

Huawei’s subbrand Honor launched the Honor Play at the IFA event, which has already been launched in India. But Honor Play wasn’t the only phone announced at its IFA press event, as the company also teased a new phone dubbed as Honor Magic 2.

The Honor Magic 2 is the successor to the Honor Magic that was launched back in 2016. The Magic will feature a full-screen display with ultra-slim bezels and it will come with a new design with a slide-out camera, something like the Oppo Find X. The company calls it  Magic Slide full screen.

The Magic 2 will be powered by a new Kirin 980 AI chipset from Huawei which will be officially announced at its IFA keynote of Huawei later. It is expected to based on the 7nm manufacturing process to improve speed by approx. 20% and to consume approx. 40% less power than its 10nm counterpart.
