Created in 2006 by educator Salman Khan (Sal), Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization that aims to provide “a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere”. The site initially started off with Mathematics tutorials on their YouTube channel that received several million views in it’s initial year and with the help of donations, they expanded their faculty to cover subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Economics, Entrepreneurship, History, Music, Art History, Computer Science and even prep courses for major exams like SAT, MCAT, GMAT etc.
The website has over 30 million students and the content has been translated into over 20 languages that include Indonesian, German, Spanish, Czech, French, Italian, Swahili, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Xhosa, Greek, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Bengali, Hindi, Malayalam and Mandarin.
With a large number of users preferring to use their handheld devices, an iOS version was designed and it was only a matter of time before an Android version came around. From the comfort of your phone or tablet, one can now access over 10,000 videos and explanations at your fingertips in math, science, economics, history, and much, much more. The redesigned navigation and search makes it faster to find what you want, you can bookmark your favorite content to “Your List” for easy access, and download it to keep learning even when you’re not connected to the internet. Additionally, your learning syncs between your Android/iPhone and khanacademy.org, so your progress is always up-to-date! Additionally, the iPhone and iPad apps are now available in Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Norwegian and Turkish as well.
