LG G Flex with Curved Display, Rear Key and Self- healing Coating Announced

LG G Flex was supposed to be the first Curved smartphone in the world, but Samsung announced Samsung Galaxy Round earlier and beat LG to it. Today LG electronics announced its version of Curved display smartphone which it refers as “The First Real Curved smartphone”. The phone also features the Rear Keys and a self healing back coating along with a curved battery.

The phone comes with a 6 inch Plastic OLED real RGB vertically curved display (Unlike Galaxy Round which was horizontally curved) but the display resolution is only 1280 x720 p HD which gives you 244 ppi which is not much considering the display size and considering that it is display centric device.

Unlike Samsung, LG has made an attempt so as to explain the functional advantage of this innovative design. According to LG the curved display will fit better on your face and will give you extra 3 DB of sound. The Loudspeaker at the back will also deliver better sound due to the the curved design as it wont be blocked.

The phone will fit better in your back pocket, which is assuming you would want to keep a 6 Inch Display device back there. The phone will also provide you with better video viewing experience in landscape mode by providing comfortable viewing angles for the entire display, which seems like a valid point.

The Phone is powered by latest Snapdragon 800 quad core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz and assisted by Adreno 330 GPU. The Ram capacity is 2 GB and the internal storage is 32 GB. The primary camera is of 13 MP and the front camera is of 2.1 MP.

The phone features a 3500 mAh battery with curved design and the back panel is particularly interesting. The back panel comes with the power and volume rocker button below the camera lens similar to LG G2. LG also claims that the back panel comes with a self healing coating which makes it capable of healing the minor scratches itself!

LG has also provided with some UI features to take advantage of the curved display which don’t appear as appealing as the option to see notifications by just rocking the curved display as seen in Samsung Galaxy Round. The QTheater gives users quick access to photos, videos and YouTube right from the lock screen and you see a curtain being drawn away. The phone also features 24 bit high quality audio similar to LG G2.

Well the reasons given in support of curved surface are not quite formidable but this marks the start of curved display technology which might bear fruitful results in the future. For now the handset is available in Korea and we expect this to be released in International markets soon.
