Micromax Canvas Duet AE90 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Micromax is one of the busiest India based manufacturers that constantly rolls out new offerings with reasonable price tags to stay ahead in the race. The latest one to hit the retail shelves is Micromax Canvas Duet AE90 and it can be grabbed from the online retailers with a couple of them listing the device for sale. Let us take a look at the specifications of this device to analyze its capabilities.

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear camera of the Micromax Canvas Duet AE90 is a 5 MP sensor paired with autofocus and LED flash for enhanced low-light photography. It is also accompanied by VGA front-facing snapper that helps in making video calls. Though there is nothing quite great to mention about its camera, most phones like Xolo Q1011 are offering 8 MP rear units in this price range.

The internal storage capacity is 4 GB of which only a mere 1.82 GB is accessible for the users to install applications and to store the multimedia content. However, there is an expansion memory card slot in the handset facilitating users to extend this low default storage by another 32 GB. While the native storage space is low at 4 GB it is common for most of the sub Rs 10,000 Android smartphones to arrive with identical storage capacity.

Processor and Battery

The Micromax Canvas Duet has a quad-core processor of unspecified chipset clocked at 1.2 GHz supported by 1 GB of RAM. With this combination to fuel the device, we can say that it will deliver acceptable performance and multi-tasking. However, we cannot recommend this device for intense graphics rich games and for other advanced tasks.

Battery capacity of the handset is 1,800 mAh and this is good to handle the average display and mediocre hardware. Though the backup delivered by this battery is not mentioned, it is expected to last one day with low to moderate usage.

Display and Features

The size of the display is 4.5 inches which is something that the users may not prefer as there are many other offerings in this price range with 5 inch display panels. Also, the screen boasts a qHD resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and this should be acceptable for the display size. Furthermore, the screen uses IPS technology that will render good viewing angles and color contrast.

The handset runs on the outdated Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS that is pretty much annoying while there are many Android 4.4 KitKat based smartphones in this range. Otherwise, there are standard features such as Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G and dual SIM functionality.

Comparison

The handset is not a best offering in the sub Rs 10,000 price range, but it still has rivals such as Xolo Q600s, Karbonn S1 Titanium, iBall Andi 4.5d Royale, Xolo Q1011 and others that are all priced lesser.

Price and Conclusion

The exact pricing of the Micromax Canvas Duet remains unknown as the handset is listed by different online retailers with varying price tags, but the margin should not differ too much. For the pricing of Rs 8,999, the handset could have arrived with the Android 4.4 KitKat OS that is becoming a common feature of the budget offerings these days. It would have been a better package if only it included better camera features and increased battery among the rest.
