Micromax’s new Canvas Tab P690 will fulfil its role as a budget 8 Inch Android tablet, priced at 8,999 INR starting from June 7,2015. The plastic back cover has brushed metal texture and the tablet also includes a SIM card slot for calling and 3G.

The 8 Inch display has 1280 x 800 pixel HD resolution, powered by 1.3 GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor. This is an upgrade over Canvas Tab P666 which was launched with a dual core chip few months back. The chipset is aided by 1 GB RAM and 8 GB expandable storage, and thus media consumption shouldn’t be a problem.

Other features include 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and 4000 mAh battery. Software is Android 4.4 KitKat. At this stage we would have liked Android Lollipop out of the box, but Micromax assures that an update is on the way.

Micromax is offering lots of freebies, which would appeal to all sections of consumers. Micromax is offering six free e-books on Kindle, 1GB of free data for two months for Vodafone users, three months premium subscription to Saavn, six months premium subscription to Truecaller, one month subscription of Hello TV and free in app purchases on Angry bird and Angry Birds Go.

Our research has made it clear that there is a large segment of consumers who would value a technology device that can be shared between the family members, and so we’ve created a powerful yet affordable Tablet powered by Intel, aimed at helping family members enjoy the big screen of the Tablet for the things they love, including Movies, Games, Music, Reading and so on. More such products with sharply defined positioning will follow in the next few weeks and months,” said Vineet Taneja, CEO, Micromax Informatics.
