Nokia 6 Gets July Android Security Update Ahead Of Google Pixel

Nokia 6 is reportedly the first Android smartphone to receive the July Android security update. This is reported to be a 149MB update that offers protection from certain recent bugs and security threats. The update has been released for the Taiwan and Hong Kong models.

The device is currently available in China, Hong-Kong and Taiwan. What’s more interesting is that HMD Global’s Nokia 6 has received this update even before Google Pixel. This shows that HMD is on track to provide monthly security updates as promised.

HMD Global’s Monthly Updates Promise

At the Mobile World Conference (MWC), Nokia’s parent company, HMD Global had announced monthly security patches as well as regular Android updates for 2 years. That said, Nokia 6 has already become the first phone to receive the July Android security update.


Nokia 6 is currently running the latest Android 7.1.1 and will receive Android O updates soon as well. Although HMD would need to keep OS optimization in mind due to the limited configurations of Nokia 6.

Nokiapoweruser has reported about the Taiwan and Hong-Kong models of Nokia 6 to have received the July Security patch.

Nokia 6The Nokia 6 features a 5.5-inch IPS-LCD panel with Full HD (1080 x 1920p) resolution. It packs a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual tone LED flash with an 8MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture as well.

In terms of performance, the Nokia 6 is running the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It packs a Snapdragon 430 processor with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB internal memory and 256GB expandable memory (via microSD card in Sim Slot 2).

Coming to connectivity, the Nokia 6 is a Dual Sim 4G VoLTE device. It is powered by a Non-removable Li-ion 3,000 mAh battery. The phone has a microUSB 2.0 port and also a 3.5mm earphone jack.
