The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Quick Review) was launched at IFA 2013 and pushed the cutting edge technology to its edge. The phone comes with a large screen and incorporates added S-pen features to fully utilize the extra screen space. The Nokia Lumia 1520 (Quick Review) launched at the Nokia World is the first Windows phablet with the Snapdragon 800 beast inside and a Full HD resolution. Both of these phones are amongst the best on their respective platform and let’s put them head to head to know what they are offering.

Display and Processor

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with a large 5.7 inch Super AMOLED display which is pretty good display with 1080p Full HD resolution which will give you sufficient 386 pixels per inches. The Nokia Lumia 1520 comes with a slightly bigger 6 Inch display with similar 1080p Full HD resolution.

The Nokia Lumia 1520’s IPS LCD display comes with ClearBlack Technology for better outside visibility and enhanced brightness. The viewing angles are equally great on both of these phones but we found color reproduction better on Nokia Lumia 1520 display in our time with the device which makes it more suitable to watch

The processor in Nokia Lumia 1520 is the latest and best Snapdragon 800 based on Cortex A15 architecture with 4 Krait-400 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz. This processor is power efficient and comes with latest components on the chipset. The GPU used is Adreno 330 GPU.


The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with Exynos 5 Octa processor which comes with Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 processor and quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 processor. The Processor is a good performer and would give you smooth UI transitions and efficient multi tasking, but Snapdragon 800 is better.

Camera and Memory

The Nokia Lumia 1520 comes with a f/2.4 aperture 20 MP sensor camera at the back capable of Full HD video recording at 30fps. This phone comes with 4 microphones which will give you directional audio while recording Videos.

The camera supports 2 x lossless zoom, Carl Zeiss Optics and features Optical Image Stabilization to counteract Motion Blur. A front camera of 1.2 MP is also present which can record 720p HD videos for good quality video calling.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with a 13 MP camera with LED flash support, the camera is capable of recoding 1080p videos and lacks Optical image stabilization. A front camera 2 MP is present for video calling and that too can record 1080p Videos at 30fps. Over all the Nokia Lumia 1520 camera is much better than that we have in Note 3.

The Internal storage on both of these phones is same. You will get 16 GB and 32 GB onboard storage option which can be further extended to 64 GB using the MicroSD card. The RAM capacity on Note 3 is 3 GB which is the most you can find on any smartphone. The Lumia 1520 comes with 2 GB RAM which will be sufficient for most people and all high end gaming apps available today.

Battery and Feature

Nokia Lumia 1520 comes with a 3400 mAh battery which will give you up to 25 hours of talk time on 3G and up to 768 hours of standby time. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has a 3200mAh which is removable unlike Lumia 1520 battery and will give you ample talk time of 21 Hours of 3G and up to 420 hours of Standby time.

Note 3 fairs better in this department owing to the advantages of Non removable battery. The Nokia Lumia 1520 is the second phone after Nokia Lumia 920 which supports in built wireless charging.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with advanced S-pen which is quite accurate and feels good in hand. Various new software features like Scrape book, Action Memo, Pen Window etc, have been added to take full advantage of the S-Pen which are actually quite handy and work accurately.

Other functions like Multi Windows have also been added to assist multi tasking. Note 3 also has an IR blaster which helps you use it as your TV remote. It also provides you compatibility with Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch.

The Lumia 1520 comes with various added apps like Nokia Refocus, Nokia Story Teller and Nokia Beamer. Nokia beamer lets you screen content from your Lumia Phone to a bigger display and Nokia Story teller integrates you clicked pics with Nokia HERE maps in chronological order.

Nokia Lumia 1520 will give you great multimedia experience with its big beautiful display and will give you a much better camera than Note 3. If you are not an aggressive App downloader and use the basic one, than this is the phone for you. With Samsung Galaxy Note 3 you can enjoy the best of Android ecosystem. The New S-Pen is also pretty amazing and handy to use, but most people don’t use it that often. The Major Advantage of Note 3 is that it runs on advanced and generally preferred Android platform.
