Reversible superMHL Connector Supporting USB Type-C Specification Launched

MHL Consortium has come up with the superMHL specifications, the latest MHL technology for CE and mobile devices. This next generation connector provides higher resolution and frame rates besides rendering 40W of power charging, support up to 8K video resolution and expanded audio formats. These aspects let users to link their mobile devices, set-top boxes (STBs), Blu-ray Disc players, AVRs, streaming media sticks and other source devices to their TVs and displays.

MHL introduced this new reversible 32 pin superMHL connector supporting six high-speed data lanes to carry concurrent video, data and power charging in a form factor that is slim and customer friendly. The reversible design, will eradicate the plug orientation and cable direction eliminating frustration and provides high level of flexibility.

The superMHL specification supports micro USB (Source), USB Type-C (Source), Proprietary connectors (Source), HDMI Type-A (Sinks) and superMHL connector (Sources and Sinks).

Other features of the reversible superMHL connector include deep color support up to 48-bit color depths, a wider color gamut, High-Dynamic Range (HDR) to receive perfect balance of bright spectral highlights along with shadow details, an immersive surround sound output with object audio such as Dolby Atmos, DTS- UHD, 3D audio and an audio-only mode, advanced connectivity configurations supporting linking of multiple MHL devices together and controlling them using a single remote.
