Snapdragon 855 Fusion Processor with 5G capabilities surfaces in SoftBank presentation

While the Mobile World Congress witnessed many new releases, there are now reports confirming the presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform. Confirmed in a presentation by SoftBank, the Snapdragon 855 will soon be a reality.

AndroidHeadlines has reported that the Snapdragon 855 ‘Fusion’ platform will be made official in fall this year with the compatible devices shipping next year. The latest offering from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 845 chipset has already found its place in the flagships. This upcoming processor will be 5G based as it was brought out in presentation about Sprint 5G network.

About Snapdragon 855 Fusion Mobile Platform

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855

For the uninitiated, SoftBank is partnered with bands like Ericsson, Qualcomm, and Sprint. While presenting about their earnings of the first 3 quarters of 2017, the company talked about the Snapdragon 855 Fusion platform. It is the first time we’ve heard a term like ‘Fusion’ associated with a Snapdragon SoC. Now, Qualcomm also refers to their processors as mobile platforms.

Mobile carrier Sprint is coming up with 5G network speeds and the Snapdragon 855 Fusion chip will also pack a 5G modem to support the network. However, it will need to support 4G bands too so it is expected to come with Dual modems for 4G LTE as well as 5G.

Talking about the current processor, the Snapdragon 845 is an Artificial intelligence backed processor with more performance capabilities. With a dedicated ISP, the mobile platform is powering the Samsung Galaxy S9 Duo, Sony Xperia XZ2, Asus ZenFone 5Z. The SoC will also back the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S.

Coming back to the Snapdragon 855 Fusion mobile platform, not much details about the processor are unveiled but we can expect support for under-display fingerprint sensor and higher megapixel cameras. Apart from these upgrades, we cannot predict much about the processor as it is not yet official.
