Xiaomi exec Hugo Barra lands in the country; Indian launch imminent

Xiaomi are among the better known companies from China alongside the likes of OPPO, Meizu, etc. What makes Xiaomi different is the fact that the company has been looking to expand overseas unlike other Chinese manufacturers which seem content in selling their devices in their home country.

In a recent post by Xiaomi executive Hugo Barra (posted on his Google+), the veteran is seen together with India’s own Rohit Ghalsasi who happens to be MIUI India’s founder. What’s worth noticing is that the picture is taken at the Gateway of India, which goes to suggest more than just a good location sense that Barra seems to possess.

A gateway to India, literally

Really excited to be hanging out at the Gateway of India in Mumbai with MIUI India founder +Rohit Ghalsasi, who’s leading our MIUI Hindi translation community project… exciting times!

The country has for long been waiting for a Xiaomi launch, ever since Xiaomi started getting popular since its inception 4 years back. Some analysts in India feel that the market here is very similar to what Xiaomi exploit in China, relying on selling in huge numbers rather than making a greater cut on every unit.

Xiaomi recently released the Redmi Note phablet, which is far as our knowledge serves, is the most affordable octa-core device trending. It goes for just $130 in China, and if Xiaomi can keep the pricing at the same level in India, it could well spell disaster for local players.
