Xiaomi teased the launch of a new smartphone on March 14 in India. The Chinese smartphone maker teased the smartphone in the launched video of Mi TV 4A and the side profile shot was given in the video which hints it could be the budget Xiaomi Redmi 5 making way to the Indian market.

Xiaomi on Wednesday unveiled its new Mi TV 4A line-up in India and the official product unveiling took place via an online live stream. Just before the end of the live stream, they teased a smartphone launching on March 14. The teaser video shows a camera bump on the smartphone that resembles the one on the Redmi 5.

To recall, Xiaomi launched Redmi 5 back in December last year in the Chinese market along with Redmi 5 Plus. While the Redmi 5 Plus is rebranded as Redmi Note 5 and is already available in India, so the Redmi 5 could complete Xiaomi’s latest budget Redmi series smartphones in the Indian market.

Apart from the video teaser, just today, Xiaomi-Global VP, Manu Kumar Jain also announced the new Xiaomi smartphone launch on March 14. He wrote, “#CompactPowerhouse is launching on 14th March! Slim, sleek and compact! Yet a true super power house! Guess what this is?” So, going by this it could be a new phone with bigger battery and compact design.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 specifications

Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 282ppi pixel density. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, coupled with 2GB/ 3GB/ 4GB of RAM and 16GB/ 32GB of inbuilt storage. The dual-SIM phone runs MIUI 9 on top of Android Nougat.

In the camera department, the phone comes with a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. On the front, there is a 5MP selfie camera with a “soft-light” flash module and Xiaomi’s proprietary Beautify 3.0. There is a 3300mAh battery powering the Redmi 5.

There are possibilities that this new phone could be the Redmi 5, successor to last year’s Redmi 4.  However, this might come with a bigger battery. Further, it could be priced around Rs. 7,999 considering the Redmi Note 5 price in India that starts at Rs. 9,999.
