Nokia Lumia 730 India Hands on Review, Camera, Features, Price, Software and Overview [Video]

Design, Display and Build

Lumia 730 looks like a very conventional Lumia smartphone with bold colors and glossy rear cover. The 4.7 inch  display form factor facilitates easy one handed usage. All hardware buttons have been placed just right, and on the whole the device looks and feels like most other mid range Lumia phones. Apart from Orange color model, Green and Grey color variants had matte finish back cover.

The 4.7 inch ClearBlack AMOLED display is easier to read outdoors compared to other conventional smartphones. The resolution doesn’t feel scanty on the display size. Nokia has done a good job with Lumia 730’s display. Viewing angles, contrast and colors are quite decent.

Processor and RAM

image

Processor used is 1.2 GHz quad core snapdragon 400 with 1 GB RAM. Lumia 630 sailed very smoothly on a similar chipset with half the amount of RAM, so we are optimistic that Lumia 730 will hold well in the long run even with improved resolution. Windows Phone 8 is much more resource efficient as compared to Android, so don’t judge the hardware from Android perspective.

Camera and Internal Storage

The camera is the main highlight here. The rear 6.7 MP unit has a weird resolution, but is a great performer. Even in low light condition the rear camera showed good details. The front camera has been designed for selfie lovers.

The 5 MP front unit has a 25 mm wide angle lens to capture more in a single frame. This actually worked pretty well in our initial testing. Selfies also looked sharper. A camera app has also been added to further aid this cause. You can edit selfies and add filters, make yourself look slimmer, etc. The app also allows you to shoot selfies from the rear camera.

Internal storage is 8 GB (6 GB Free) and you can further avail up to 128 GB MicroSD card expansion. Windows Phone 8.1 allows you to add apps to SD card, and thus storage shouldn’t be a concern for average user.

User Interface and Battery

Lumia 730 will feature Windows 8.1 with Lumia Denim update pre-installed out of the box. So now you can make folders on home screen which is as vibrant as before, thanks to the live tiles. Other denim update features include customized home screen or App corners, Snooze time, SMS Merge, etc. Windows Phone App store now lists over 320,000 apps and most of the popular apps are already included in this list.

Battery capacity is 2220 mAh which will render 600 hours of standby time and 17 hours of talk according to Nokia. Battery backup has never been an issue on Lumia phones and Lumia 730 isn’t expected to be an exception.

Conclusion

Since all major OEMs have started churning out selfie centric devices, Lumia 730 arrives at an opportune moment. Nokia has long been appreciated for its superior imaging hardware and Lumia 730 has the potential to allure those prioritizing selfies over other stuff. If you compare the price to its two main rivals – Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and Sony Xperia C3, the Lumia 730 has been priced right.
