Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) Physical Overview

As far as the design is concerned, it has the same metal and glass build that we witnessed on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5. This overall design and build quality seems very premium. It has got perfectly chiseled edges, which compliment the thin bezel on the sides. The sides feel solid and the edges are curved because of the 2.5D curved glass on both front and back. The grip and feel of the phone is great, it is a really impressive surprise from Samsung in terms of design. It is sleek at 7.3mm and weighs just 169 grams.

The front top has the metallic earpiece, front camera, notification LED and proximity and ambient light sensors. The home button/fingerprint sensor, and touch navigation buttons are below the display.

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) Display

2016-02-04 (2)

It comes with a 5.5 inch Full-HD (1920 x 1080 p) super AMOLED display panel with a pixel density of 401 ppi, which ensures that the viewing experience on this phone is exceptional. The display is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 4 to stay void of cracks and scratches. The full HD resolution make videos and photos jump right at you with vivid colours and great details. The viewing angles are great, but we were not able to test the outdoor visibility at the hands on event. But we are sure it will be easily viewable in those conditions too.

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) User Interface

Like all of its siblings, the Galaxy A7 also comes with the Samsung’s very own TouchWiz UI based on Android Lollipop 5.1. The user experience initially was smooth and snappy but we have seen the TouchWiz UI slowing down a little bit with time in previous devices. To increase the efficiency, Samsung has also included some useful features on top of what Android offers in the package.

Samsung A7 Galaxy (2016) Camera Overview

Unfortunately camera performance is one of the areas where this phone lags behind. With such a high price tag, we expected the camera to be a lot better than this. The rear camera is 13 MP which seems very ordinary at this moment of time when smartphones are featuring such great cameras at low prices. Another major let down was the use of single LED in place of dual tone LED flash. Anyhow, it could be that Samsung is restricting the camera performance of the mid-range phones so that flagships with better cameras have something to differ.

On the front, it has a 5 MP selfie snapper which features an aperture of f/1.9 and performs good. It captured good details and catchy colours were produced even in low light scenarios.

Price and Availability

It is priced at INR 33,400 and will be available for purchase from February 15th onwards via Snapdeal and physical retail stores. The colour variants will be Black, Gold and White.

Comparison And Competition

Samsung A7 (2016) does not have a lot to prove that price point but if we look at the smartphones with similar pricing, it will compete with Nexus 5X, LG G4, Galaxy S6 Edge and Moto X Style to name a few.

Conclusion

Galaxy A7 (2016) is a good device if compared to its predecessor, it has overcome the shortcomings we found on the earlier one. We are really impressed with the design, build, display and battery of this device but we expected a better camera and storage on a phone priced above 30K.
