Huawei Honor 4x Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Huawei has stepped in the flash sales arena, with its Honor 4X which will be available from 10,499 INR very soon. The handset includes several eye catching specifications all packed in a neat design with nice textured rear finish. We have spent some quality time with the device in past couple of days, and here is what you can expect from the new Honor series challenger.

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear 13 MP AF Rear camera can record 1080p videos. You can use it to capture some rear good still shots in day light, however performance slightly dwindles in low lighting. It is still among some of the best camera’s you could ask for in this price range. We rather liked the 5 MP front selfie camera which can record 720p HD videos and will suffice for  good quality selfies.

Internal storage is 8 GB out of which less than 4 GB is available at user end. If you are interested in high end gaming, you could exhaust this very fast. Good thing is, that you can transfer apps to SD card and the native storage is not partitioned into Internal and Phone storage, thus allowing you to install apps on all available space.

Processor and Battery

The handset is powered by Snapdragon 410 quad core SoC, aided by 2 GB Ram, out of which more than 600 MB is free on first boot. UI seems to hog resources, but overall performance is smooth for day to day usage. We didn’t observe any major lag in our time with the device and this is expected to remain consistent in long run. Gaming performance was mostly smooth, with a few frame drops in heavy gaming.

Battery capacity is where Honor 4x impressed us most. The 3000 mAh battery can easily carry even demanding users comfortably beyond one day mark. Power saving mode is also present to help you sale through critical times.

Display and Other Features

The display is 5.5 inches is size and flaunts very acceptable 720p HD resolution. A scratch guard comes preinstalled on the device, thus you can be assured of protection against scratches. Huawei hasn’t mentioned any scratch resistant layer on top of display.  It’s a good quality display, though not the best that we have seen.

Honor X4 is running Android KitKat based Emotion UI 3.0 out of the box and there are chances of lollipop upgrade sometime in future. The UI isn’t as elaborate or intuitive as say, MIUI 6, but is still rich in customization options. Other features include 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and dual SIM functionality.

Comparison

Huawei Honor 4x will mainly compete with phones like Xiaomi Redmi Note, Yu Yureka, Lenovo A7000 and Meizu M1 Note in India.

What We Like

  • Decent design and Sturdy build
  • 64 Bit Chip with 2 GB RAM
  • 5 MP Front camera is a decent performer

Conclusion

Huawei Honor X4 is a decent smartphone, good enough for the asking price. Perhaps its rivals pack more horsepower, but it is safely the better looking than most others. Registration starts today and you can participate in first flash sales on 30th March 2015. Since Huawei is bundling a scratch guard, rear case, headphones and 3000 mAh battery bank in the package, the effective price is further reduced.
