Panasonic P55 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

For those who prefer Large display phones, Panasonic has today introduced P55 with a 5.5 Inch display, quad core SoC and Slim textured back design. The budget quad core competition is more intense than ever before. Let’s take a look at the hardware specs and discuss if it stands a change.

Camera and Internal Storage

Panasonic is offering an 8 MP AF rear shooter and judging by the MP count this is good enough in this price range and you can also record 1080p full HD videos as well. There is a basic 2 MP shooter for selfies at the front as well. MP is hardly a judge for camera quality and Panasonic P55 will have to primarily compete with Zenfone 5 in this segment.

Internal storage is paltry 4 GB. Most manufacturers have moved on to at least 8 GB storage model and perhaps this is the weakest link in P55 chain. 32 GB MicroSD support is present, but since all apps can’t be moved to external storage, this could be a deal breaker if you frequently like to experiment with apps.

Processor and Battery

Panasonic P55 employs 1.2 GHz quad core processor aided by 1 GB RAM. Panasonic hasn’t talked about the details of the chipset used just yet, but it’s most likely a Snapdragon 400 unit. We will update you on this info shortly.

Battery capacity is 2500 mAh which is expected to last one day with moderate usage. Since the display size lies at the phablet end of the spectrum, this is more of a necessity. Good thing is that the battery is removable.

Display and Other features

The IPS LCD display is 5.5 inches in size with 1280 x 720p resolution. Since its an IPS LCD display you can expect good viewing angles. The 267 ppi large sized display will help this phone distinguish from most other budget quad core crowd under 10k.

Software is Android 4.4.4 Kitkat and conventional Panasonic customizations, like Pop-i Player, Music Café and Gesture Play are included. Other features include 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. Panasonic P55 measures 149.7x77x7.9mm and weighs a moderate 149 grams.

Panasonic P55 will compete with phones like Moto G 2nd Gen, Asus Zenfone 5 and Panasonic P81 in India.

What we Like

  • 5.5 Inch IPS LCD HD Display
  • Capacious battery

What we Don’t Like

  • Only 4 GB internal storage

Conclusion

Panasonic P55 seems do several things right and we are eager to spend some more time with it. Its major rival will be Panasonics own P81 which is selling for almost the same price (11,000 INR) with 8 GB storage, 13 MP rear shooter and similar 5.5 Inch HD display. That doesn’t give much reason to choose P55 over P81, at the moment.
