Physical Overview

The Panasonic P85 is a decently build smartphone. The handset comes with a polycarbonate back with a metallic paint job. However, the phone is not as sleek as the Panasonic Eluga Arc. The unnecessary black bezels around the display further add up to the bulkiness of the P85. However, the huge 4,000mAh battery inside the mobile somewhat justifies its beefiness.

A 5-inch HD (1280 x 720) IPS LCD panel occupies the front of the newly launched smartphone. The front camera and the sensors sit above the display. The Panasonic P85 does not have any capacitive buttons even though there is ample space for them below the screen. You need to rely on the on-screen controls.

The 3.5 mm headphone jack lies on the top of the device.

The SIM tray and the power button resides on the right side of the phone while the volume rockers are on the left.

The bottom of the Panasonic P85 houses the micro USB port along with the primary microphone.

Moving on to the back of the phone, the primary camera docks near the top with the LED flash right below it. The loudspeaker grill sits at the rear-bottom. The Panasonic logo and well as the important certification information remain embedded in the empty part between the rear camera and the loudspeakers.

Display

Panasonic P85

The 5-inch HD display of the Panasonic P85 is an IPS LCD panel. Colour reproduction is and brightness is good enough for daily usage. Being an IPS screen, the viewing angles are admirable. Overall, we found the display to be a decent one at its price range. However, the black borders surrounding the screen is not to our taste.

Camera

The 8 MP rear camera of the P85 shines in daylight conditions. Pictures taken in outdoors came out to be quite good. Moving on to artificial lights or indoor lighting conditions, the camera performed averagely. However, the 8 MP shooter is not up to the mark when it comes to low light photography. This is actually quite acceptable considering that the Panasonic P85 is just an entry level smartphone.

The 2 MP front shooter is okay for video calling. It won’t satisfy the selfie enthusiasts.

Hardware, Software, and Performance

The MediaTek 6735P is a decent entry level chipset. With a quad-core Cortex A53 CPU running at 1.0 GHz mated with a single core Mali T720 GPU, performance is fine for day-to-day usage. Do not expect to do much gaming with the Panasonic P85. However, casual games will run without any glitch.

With the 64-bit version of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow loaded into the smartphone, performance is quite fluid. We didn’t face any major lag during normal use.

Benchmark Scores

Conclusion

The Panasonic P85 is a decently equipped budget smartphone. It packs all the necessary connectivity options including 4G VoLTE. However, devices like the Xiaomi Redmi 4A, Micromax Unite 4 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi 3S, etc. cost nearly the same, yet offer somewhat better specifications.
