Physical Overview

The Yu Yutopia has an excellent feel in the hand and has a brilliant overall built quality. Starting with the front of the device, it sports a 5.2inch 2K display which has great viewing angles at first glance. The device’s screen, however, is a fingerprint magnet, and a screen protector would be required to prevent from fingerprints to come on the phone.

The back of the phone is a complete solid sheet of metal which houses a 21MP camera which can shoot videos in 4K UHD resolution. It also sports a dual-tone LED flash. Underneath the camera is the Fingerprint sensor, which can be used to unlock the device. Additionally, the fingerprint sensor can also work as a selfie shutter, where tapping it would allow you to take a selfie.

The top of the phone houses the 3.5mm Headphone jack which you can use to connect the headphone to your phone.

The bottom of the phone has a MicroUSB port which will be used for charging and data transfer. Along with it, the primary microphone is also on the bottom.

On the right side of the phone, we find the 3 button, Volume Up, Power and Volume down (in that order) with the power button being in the middle. It might be a weird placement for the power button, but it’s there. The buttons feel sturdy and have a nice tactile click to them.

User Interface

The device is powered by none other than CyanogenMod OS, which gives the users a Stock Android like feel, but with a lot of added features are are missing in the Stock Android. The Operating System is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but with the CyanogenMod customizations, it seems pretty good. It offers a unique feature called the “Around Yu” which allows you to find food, cabs, travel tickets and available shopping areas near you by using various services like Ola Cabs and Zomato.

Camera Overview

The primary camera on the Yu Yutopia is a 21MP shooter and the secondary camera on the device is an 8MP shooter. The primary camera allows you to shoot a picture in the 4:3 aspect ratio, but if you scale it down to an 8MP picture, you will be able to shoot in a 16:9 ratio. It also allows you to record videos in resolutions up to 4k UHD using the primary camera. On switching to the secondary camera, the pictures look great from this camera. It however, lets you record videos up to 1080p full HD.

Price and Availability

The Yu Yutopia is going to be available for Rs. 24,999 exclusively on Amazon India and the pre-booking has already begun for the device. It should be available pretty soon to the customers. The exact release date has not yet been announced, but we feel it will be sometime pretty soon.

Comparison & Competition

The Yu Yutopia falls in the price range of Rs. 24000 to 27000, which means it is a straightforward competitor to the OnePlus Two. The OnePlus Two has a sandstone back whereas the Yutopia has an all metal build. The Yutopia definitely feels premium and looks premium in the hand when compared to the OnePlus Two. Both the phones offer fairly stock versions of Android, so the User Interface on both should be comparable and not much different.

Conclusion

Yu had previously amazed with the Yu Yuphoria and the Yu Yureka, and again, this time, they have been able to amaze us to a great extent. I would just like to say that the device is pretty impressive and has a lot of good features to offer.

At 24,999, it has a lot of good competition with the OnePlus Two, but it does offer some decent specs for the price. Be sure to check out our full review of the device to know how it stacks up against the OnePlus Two.
