E-commerce giant Amazon introduced a pilot program Amazon Pantry service earlier this year. Initially this service was introduced only in Hyderabad but now Amazon has expanded the service to seven more cities of India.
Due to the demonetization effect people are moving more towards online options. Hence Amazon took this wonderful opportunity to expand their service in various cities. The new list of cities include Mumbai, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Pune, and Faridabad.
Amazon Pantry claims to deliver the groceries and household items by next day. We can shop by filling a virtual box of up to 15kgs. Delivery is free for prime members and Rs 20 per box will be charged for non-Prime members. Amazon has divided the products into seven categories. It includes “Cooking Essentials”, “Snacks & Beverages”, “Diapers, Baby Care & Baby Food”, “Household Supplies & Pets”, “Bath, Hair care,Oral care & Shaving”, “Skincare, Make-up & Deodorants” and “Themed boxes, About Pantry & Past purchases”. As we add items the virtual box shows that how much weight we can add more.
If you have a fixed set of grocery lists then you can simply repeat the order from “Past Orders” section without much hassle of choosing all the items again. Amazon Pantry is also offering 5% of discount on the purchase of Rs 1,000 and 10% of discount on the purchase of Rs 2,000. Additionally you will get 10% back as Amazon Pay balance on every payment made via Amazon Pay balance.
Recently Amazon also introduced dedicated app for Delhi and Mumbai customers. This app allows customers to do shopping from 5,000 everyday essentials items from stores like Hypercity, Spar, Modern Bazaar, Easy Day, Big Bazaar, SRS, and etc. Free delivery is applicable for shopping of at-least Rs 350. If the amount is less than that then Rs 29 extra will be charged for a scheduled delivery and Rs 49 will be charged for express delivery. Products purchased will be delivered within 2hrs to their doorstep or at a pre-scheduled time. As of now there is no minimum order to get the free delivery.
“We have seen multiple times growth in sub -categories of this segments such as household, baby products, personal care. It also gives us the buying pattern of users who are shopping for these products.” said Amazon India’s director for category management, consumables. Amazon is also looking forward to expand this service to more cities of India. It is going to be a serious competition for Grofers and Big Basket.
