Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe Real Life Usage Review

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe is the latest flagship smartphone from Asus and the device was launched in India in the end of 2016. Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe is priced as a high-end phone and has recently started to sell in India. The phone comes with a metallic unibody design and has a lot to offer in terms of features.

We were able to use the phone and have come with a full review. Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe features a 5.7 inch full HD Super AMOLED display and is powered by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. Let’s find out what else Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe has packed in it.

Performance

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 dual-core chipset clocked at 2.15 GHz coupled with 4GB/6GB of RAM. The device comes with 64GB/128GB/256GB of internal storage and can be expanded up to 256GB.

App Launch Speed

The app launch speed is very quick on this handset and it takes minimal time to open the heaviest of apps.

Multitasking and RAM Management

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 in Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe works good, multitasking on this phone is easy and fast. It has 4GB/6GB of RAM and hence, handles multiple tasks at once without giving you a chance to complain.

Scrolling Speed

Scrolling speed is good in Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe. It didn’t show lags while browsing through heavy web pages.

It has a 23 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 8MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture. It comes with full HD video recording capabilities from both front and rear camera.

Camera Performance

The camera performance is good on Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe. It has a great camera for the price, but you can’t call it as the best in the price segment. Point not to be ignored, the daylight performance of the camera was good and captured images with close to natural colors. Auto-focus and image processing speed was commendable in daylight conditions. Battery Performance

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe is backed by a 3000mAh battery which is enough for a phone with such specifications. Moreover, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor is a good processor that handles battery at an average level.

Charging Time

We were able to charge the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe from 0-100% in 1 hour 30 minutes.

Looks and Design

The Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe looks perfect with its slim and metallic unibody design. It comes packed in a metal shell with chamfered edges on the back and front. It has a a big display with a 5.7 inch display and weighs 170gms, which is okay for the size and metal build. Phone looks different with the classy golden color and chamfered edges. It has thin bezels on sides, with almost no black border, which is a good thing. You can have a feel of a good solid phone in hand.

Quality of Material

The Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe sports an aluminum back which feels solid and premium at the same time. It has a brushed metal finish on the back and chamfered edges on both the sides. All this altogether hike the looks of the phone.

Ergonomics

The Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe has a metallic body and display size of 5.7 inches. It weighs 170 gms and its dimensions are 156.4 x 77.4 x 7.5 mm. It is above an average sized phone.

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe features 5.0 inch display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with 386 pixel density. It is a beautiful looking display with crisp details and bright colors.

Outdoor Visibility (Full Brightness)

Outdoor visibility is good, but the colors don’t look dull when the brightness is not full.

Custom User Interface

The Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe runs on Android 6.0.1 with Asus ZenUI 3.0 skinned on top. Asus has added good features in ZenUI 3.0. For example, there is an app that can help you measure the distance between you and an object using the laser autofocus.

The Zenfone 3 Deluxe also comes with a new homescreen feed called ZenLife, taking a page from HTC’s BlinkFeed. It features a Theme store too so you can customize your phone on the fly by downloading themes. We do wish Asus would have trimmed down its set of apps and features – it can be overwhelming, but many of those apps can be disabled.

Sound Quality

The loudspeaker on this phone is placed at the bottom and the sound quality is pretty good. You can have a great sound experience while playing games in a silent room. It surely gives a decent sound output in terms of call ringtones in outdoors.

Call Quality

Call quality is good. Network reception is great and the microphone and speakers work really well.

Gaming Performance

We played Modern combat 5 in the 6GB/256GB variant to test its gaming performance. The Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 does a good job in handling graphic intensive games. Although we faced some minimal heating issues but it was still playable.

I played the same game for about 30 mints and battery dropped around 10% and the phone got quite warm but allover heating was under control.

Game Lag & Heating

We did not face any major issue while playing Modern combat 5. The worst I could notice is the phone got a little warm. Heating was well under control, it did not heat up even after excessive gaming.

Verdict

The Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe is a good phone offering good features for its price range. The highlight according to our usage is its camera in daylight conditions. If you are a camera enthusiast, this surely cam give a great outdoor experience. It provides good software and hardware.
