The Gionee F103 “Make In India Product” Released

The Make In India initiative brought about another entrant into the Smartphone segment, this time from Chinese-based Gionee who introduced the Gionee F103 in Visakhapatnam today in the presence of Mr Arvind R Vohra, Country CEO and MD for Gionee India and Mr William Lu, President at Gionee alongwith the Hon’ble Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who was all praise for Gionee’s entry into India with the fashionable Gionee F103.

The slim 7.5 mm body sports a 5 inch HD display (720p) that comes with Dragontail protection and weighs just 136.6 gms. Powering the Gionee F103 is 2 GB of RAM with a Quad-core 1.3 GHz processor on a Mediatek chipset that runs on Amigo 3.0 UI (which is layered over Android Lollipop 5.0).

The Primary camera is a 8 Megapixel camera that has auto-focus and LED flash while the front-facing camera is a 5 Megapixel camera that should give you reasonably decent pictures. Other specifications include the 2400 mAh battery, 16 GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 32 GB,  4G support and a dual-SIM card options. The Gionee F103 will come in Pearl White, Dawn White and Black and will retail for INR 10,399.

With rising costs on import duties, it was only a matter of time before more companies joined the Make In India bandwagon to counter the ever-rising import duty imposed on smartphones and it won’t be long before we see a lot more companies following suit.


Gionee committed to invest $50 million (that’s just over INR 300 crores) across the next three years on manufacturing in India and also plans on scaling up their R&D center here which includes their UI division, tasked with enhancing their Amigo UI for Indian users.
