Google Lens now available to all Android smartphones with Google Photos app

Google Lens has been rolled out to all the Android smartphones and tablets inside the Google Photos app. This feature was first announced by Google at the I/O 2017 event last year. Since then, Google has been testing this feature in beta, but now the Android maker has confirmed that the feature has been rolled out to all Android users with the Google Photos app.

Google also confirmed that the feature would also be coming to all the iOS devices shortly.

What is Google Lens?

Backed by Machine Learning, OCR and AI, Google Lens can identify anything in the picture you have taken from the camera. Google mentioned that the smartphones having English language set as default would only get the Lens feature in the Google Photos app. The Google Lens feature is coming to the Google Assistant in coming weeks.Google Lens

How to get Google Lens feature on Android

To get the Google Lens feature, you need to download the latest Google Photos app on your smartphone. The element sits on the photos app while you are surfing pictures, the Lens icon appears at the bottom toolbar. Tap on that feature and it will detect what it can in the image and will show you the result.

For now, it is just a text-based search; it can also detect phone numbers, email ids and website links from a visiting card. It can do a lot more than that like recognizing pictures or movie covers to search them on the internet. It can also “search by image” directly from the app on the Google images which is also convenient enough.
