Micromax Unite 2 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Micromax has just announced the launch of Micromax Unite 2 budget smartphone for Rs 6,999. Both the China based vendors and the indigenous smartphone makers are battling with each other in launching such entry-level handsets in order to grab a significant segment of the market share that is gained by the price conscious consumer base. Moreover, with the launch of Moto E in this price bracket offering value for the money paid has triggered the competition further. If you are looking for low cost smartphone you will definitely be spoilt for choice and here is a detailed view at the specifications of the Micromax Unite 2.

Camera and Internal Storage

The Micromax Unite 2 is given a 5 MP primary camera at the back coupled with auto focus and LED flash. Though this rear snapper is not suitable for clicking great quality photos and videos, it does a pretty decent job. The front of the handset gets a 2 MP fixed focus camera for making video calls and it is sufficient for normal video calls and seflies. Furthermore, the camera has a slew of features such as beauty mode, panorama and live photo mode to enhance the photography experience of users.

The default storage space of the Micromax Unite 2 is 4 GB, but the handset comes with a micro SD card slot providing support to expandable storage support up to 32 GB. Considering the price range of this handset, this low 4 GB of storage is acceptable and it is common among the entry-level phones.

Processor and Battery

Handing the processing department of the phone is a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor of unspecified chipset and it is mated with a decent 1 GB of RAM that can take charge of the multi-tasking functionality.

Under the hood of the Micromax Unite 2, there is a 2,000 mAh battery that is strong enough to pump in a decent battery backup to the device under mixed usage. Such a juicy battery is also a welcome addition to the handset that is priced in the sub Rs 8,000 price category.

Display and Features

The display unit of the Micromax Unite 2 measures 4.7 inches boasting a screen resolution of 480×800 pixels. The handset utilizes a Bright Graph IPS panel that can deliver exceptional viewing angles and superior color contrast and brightness. We cannot expect more in this price range and the handset does not disappoint being a budget smartphone.

Interestingly, the Micromax Unite 2 is the first smartphone from the vendor to run on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. Furthermore, the firm has guaranteed that the device can be easily upgraded with future updates via FOTA. Also, the device is equipped with the Reverie Multilingual pack that allows users to communicate in 20 Indian regional languages and English as well. This makes the handset the world’s first phone with 21 language support. The Micromax Unite 2 is available in four vibrant color options – Grey, White, Red and Green.

Besides these aspects, the handset is pre-loaded with a slew of applications including Mad, Getit, Kingsoft Office, Opera Mini Browser, Hike, M!Games, M!live, Reverie Phonebook and Reverie Smartpad. It has a host of connectivity features – 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS leaving us no issues in this regard.

Comparison

The Micromax Unite 2 will be entering into a direct rivalry with other smartphones such as Moto E, Intex Aqua N4, Xolo A510 and Lava Iris 406Q that are already rocking the entry-level market segment.

Price and Conclusion

The Micromax Unite 2 provides value for money and we cannot find any major downside at this price point. Micromax is renowned for its portfolio of impressive devices and it is sure to do well in its class. This is Micromax’s answer to Moto E and other Tier 1 competition in sub 10,000 INR price range. We can expect other domestic players to follow suit.
