Nokia Lumia 525 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

One of Nokia’s best selling phones in India has been the Lumia 520. Reasons behind the success of this device have been the low cost, fluid WP8 UI and a solid build from Nokia. The only shortcoming one could think of on the phone is the 512MB RAM which sometimes isn’t enough to run a few popular apps. However, Nokia has rectified this with the new Lumia 525 smartphone which retains properties from the 520 but comes with 1GB of RAM.

Hardware

Model Nokia Lumia 525
Display 4 inches, 800 x 480p
Processor 1GHz dual core
RAM 1GB
Internal Storage 8GB
OS WP8
Cameras 5MP rear
Battery 1430mAh
Price Rs. 10,399

Display

The phone retains the Lumia 520’s 4 inch screen, along with the 800 x 480p resolution that it came with. Which means, the device won’t be the best for watching movies, videos, etc. However, casual multimedia usage like YouTube streaming and music would not be much of a problem, just like how it was on the Lumia 520.

Camera and Storage

Again, there’s a retention of imaging hardware as well. The Lumia 525 sports the same 5MP autofocus rear shooter that came with the 520. The camera does pictures up to 2592х1936 pixels in resolution, and videos up to 720p HD. Although the camera isn’t one for hardcore shutterbugs, the camera can be useful for casual imaging, for example shots with your family, etc.

The phone features 8GB of on-board ROM, which is expandable by up to 64GB via microSD. Although pricing of the Lumia 525 remains to be seen, the 8GB ROM on offer definitely looks better than other MediaTek phones which come usually with only 4GB.

Processor and Battery

The phone features the Qualcomm MSM8227 like its predecessor, which comes with a dual core CPU on board that runs at 1GHz. Although it is clearly not something comparable to the Snapdragon 600s and the 800s, but the phone does its job of offering a fluid UI along with decent performance. The fact that the Lumia 520 did exceptionally well stands testimony to the fact that the processor does its job of delivering a satisfactory performance.

The device ships with a 1430mAh battery, which does sound short of expectations after you see batteries as large as 2500mAh ship with Android devices. However, the WP8 OS is better at power management.

Form Factor and Competitors

Design

The phone features the same candy bar form that you see in Lumia devices. Like other phones in its league, the phone comes in a variety of back covers that are interchangeable. Due to the size being smaller compared to other phones that are trending, the phone is easily usable in one hand.

Competitors

Conclusion

As mentioned previously, price is a factor that remains to be seen. The phone will be made available by Nokia in the country in the first half of January 2014 alongside the Lumia 1320, which is when we would know of the phones price. However, the RAM upgrade was much called for. Given that Nokia price the device well, we can foresee this one sell as well as the Lumia 520 in the Indian market.
