Xiaomi Mi4 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Updated on 2014-1-28: Xiaomi Mi4 has been launched in India for 19,999 INR. It will retail Exclusively on Flipkart starting from 10th February and will be running latest MIUI 6 out of the box.

Xiaomi Mi4 has just been announced and it comes with specifications that match up to the level of the current flagships at a price which is way less than theirs. It comes in to take charge from the Mi3 which has been getting sold out globally as soon as it is coming in stock. Its launch for India is yet to be announced but seeing the fact that Xiaomi is coming here in full swing, we doubt if its launch will be far behind. Let us take a quick review of the specifications of the device:

Xiaomi-Mi-41

Camera and Internal Storage

Xiaomi has gone all guns blazing in the imaging department and has loaded the device pretty well. At the back of the smartphone is a 13MP camera with a LED flash. It uses a Sony sensor and has an aperture size of f/1.8. It comes support for 4K video recording and is expected to be quite the performer. It looks amazing on paper and we can comment on it finally only when we see it in person.

At the front of the Mi4 will be an 8MP camera which has a Sony BSI sensor and support for 1080p video recording. It also has an aperture size of f/1.8. It will come in 16GB and 64GB memory variants with both the variants lacking support for external storage. Unfortunately, The 64GB variant won’t be available in India.

Processor and Battery

Under the hood of the Mi4 is a 2.5 GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 SoC with an Adreno 330 GPU. It is joined by a 3GB RAM to ensure that you can multitask with ease without any issues. This is currently what you get in other flagships and seeing the fact that it will be available at a much lower price, it surely makes a lot of sense.

A 3,080 mAh battery is present to juice it up and it comes with quick charging functionality too. It is expected to provide support for 280 hours of standby on 3G networks. The real world performance is subjective and can be commented on only when we see the final unit in our hands.

Display and Features

The display unit is a 5 inch one with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is present as well for protection so you need not worry about scratching your screen every now and then. The 3 usual capacitive buttons are present up front.

The device runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top of it. The MIUI is one of the better customisations we have seen on offer and it keeps on getting updated constantly. It comes shod with a stainless steel frame and features a robust build quality. Yet it manages to tip the scales at 149 grams.

Comparison

It will be going up against other flagships which include the likes of Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2, HTC One M8 , OnePlus One and LG G3 and will have an advantage in the pricing department over them.

Price and Conclusion

It has been priced pretty aggressively by Xiaomi. It costs 1999 Chinese Yuan (roughly Rs. 19,400) for the 16GB variantand the 64GB variant is priced at 2499 Chinese Yuan (roughly Rs. 24250). It offers flagship performance at half the price and leaves nothing else to be desired at the price point. The only issue you may face with it will be laying your hands on one.
