Xolo One Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Xolo One, attempts to be an Android One phone, something its not, but with conviction. It has an Android One like spec sheet and a similar label. Xolo even promises Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade to bridge the software gap. Does this make Xolo One as good or better than Android One smartphones out there? Let’s take a look.

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear camera is 5 MP unit with LED flash and the front VGA snapper is also present for basic video calling. On paper this seems similar to Android One and almost all other phones selling in this price bracket. For more MP or better camera, you can also opt for phones like Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Huawei Honor Holly in the same price range.

Internal storage is 8 GB. This is double as compared to what Android One smartphones are offering. You can also expand it by another 32 GB using MicroSD card slot.

Processor and Battery

Processor used is the same 1.3 GHz Quad core which is ubiquitous in this price range. Most budget quad core devices in this price range are using the same chipset aided by 1 GB RAM. While some rare few employ Broadcom BCM23350 and Snapdragon 200. MT6582 has been well tested over time and is capable of delivering decent performance apt for basic and moderate usage.

Battery capacity is 1700 mAh and perhaps a bigger battery would have helped Xolo score more points over conventional Android One phones. Xolo promises 3 hours of charging time, 8 hours of 3G talktime, 5.3 hours of WiFi web browsing time and 377 hours of 3G standby time.

Display and Other Features

The Display is 4.5 inches in size with very usable FWVGA resolution. with 400 INR extra you could choose Huawei Honor Holly with a 5 Inch HD display if a sharper display ranks high on your priority list. Xolo One also features capacitive navigation keys instead of Software navigation button which occupy precious screen real estate.

The main strength of Android One phones is the promise of latest Android software upgrade handled by the Android giant Google itself. Xolo One also promises Android 5.0 Lollipop but it doesn’t say about the time frame of the upgrade.

Besides, Android 4.4 KitKat was followed by 4.4.1, 4.4.2 to version 4.4.4. Will Xolo offer the subsequent versions? Besides its reasonable that users will find Google more trust worthy with updates as compared to Xolo with handling OTA update.

Comparison

Xolo One will compare with Android One smartphones, Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Zenfone 4.5 and Huawei Honor Holly
