Gionee A1 FAQ, Pros & Cons, User Queries, and Answers

Physical Overview

The Gionee A1 is a handsome looking device with excellent build quality. The design language is nothing new. A1’s metal back with plastic borders on the top and bottom is pretty standard among the midrange smartphones. Coming to the dimensions, the 154.5 x 76.5 x 8.5 mm mobile fits quite decently in hand.

Now, let’s have a detailed look at the exterior of the Gionee A1.

At the front, the 2.5D curved 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display steals the show. Above it lies the in-call earpiece with the sensors and the front camera on either side.

Display

As mentioned above, the Gionee A1 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD panel. The display has got a 2.5D curvature too, which enhances the premium aspect of the handset. The display is protected by  On our usage, we found the display to be quite good. It produces excellent colours, is adequately bright and has loads of contrast.

Camera Overview

Gionee A1

The Gionee A1 boasts a 16 MP front camera and 13 MP rear camera. This makes it a hot choice for selfie enthusiasts. Both the rear and the front shooter produce exceptional images. The photos come out to be sufficiently sharp and have perfect colour tone and white balance. Needless to say, we are quite amazed by the imaging capability of Gionee’s latest smartphone.

Gaming Performance

This is where the Gionee A1 somewhat fumbles a bit. The MediaTek P10 chipset inside is simply not enough for Full HD gaming. It is even more unacceptable considering the phone is going to cost above Rs. 20000. Although most of the average games ran butter smooth, high-end gaming somewhat made the device gasp for breath.

Benchmark Scores

Gionee A1 Benchmarks

The lacklustre gaming performance is visible in the benchmark results. The Gionee A1 scores a tad less than the like of Snapdragon 625, 650 or 652.

Conclusion

Gionee A1 is a decent Android handset. Yes, it is priced much higher than phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Motorola Moto G5 Plus, Lenovo P2, etc., but that has a particular reason. In India, Gionee mainly targets the offline market, in comparison to the online-only model of other smartphones. Considering, the offline marketplace lacks devices like OnePlus 3 / 3T or Xiaomi Mi 5, Gionee may manage to sell significant units of the A1.
