Samsung Galaxy Young With Quad Core Now Available in India To Buy Online

The Samsung Galaxy Win Duos – I8552 – is now available to Indian citizens via e-stores for now. The phone is a quad-core device with a 4.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen which seems like a good size for reading as well as multimedia. The USP of this device is that it is a dual-SIM dual-standby device, and that it offers powerful quad-core performance at a low price point. The device, priced 17,990 INR, is cheaper than the very popular Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos which is priced at around 21,000 INR.

Key Features And Specs

To speak of the device’s configuration, it has 1GB of RAM coupled with 8GB of ROM, with an option to use microSD cards of up to 32GB in size. The presence of 1GB RAM is a big plus for people who like to have many applications running at once, this device should multitask between apps pretty smoothly thanks to the 1GB RAM. The 4.7 inch screen has a WVGA resolution of 800×480 pixels, in 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio which, although will be liked by people who like to watch a lot of multimedia on their device, but offers a relatively low pixel density of 199ppi. The heart of the device, the processor, is the Qualcomm MSM8625Q Snapdragon 200, clocked at 1.2GHz, which is based on the Cortex A5 architecture.

There is an Adreno 203 GPU to take care of the graphics, which is not very powerful for today’s graphic-intensive games, and we expect it to lag when you try to play games like NOVA 3. The device will come with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean as stock, which is a good thing as some devices are still shipping with Android 4.0 ICS. A front-facing VGA camera is available for video calls, while a 5 megapixel rear unit is present for photography needs.

There will be a 2000mAh battery to keep the device running, which we think is a little short of our expectations, a 2500mAh battery would’ve been perfect – it would’ve ensured you don’t run out of juice the entire day. In terms of connectivity, the device is loaded with most connectivity options such as GPS, EDGE, GPRS, 3G, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth v3.0 and USB v2.0. Standard sensors, i.e., Proximity, Accelerometer, and Compass are present.

Conclusion

We think that this is a smart move by Samsung to release a quad core device at this price point. The 4.7 inch screen should be good enough for most people, who do not want to go for a 5 inch screen as in the Grand. But what most people will fail to realize is that the Qualcomm MSM8625Q Snapdragon 200 is based on the Cortex A5 architecture which is outdated now. The hugely popular MediaTek MT6589 is based on the Cortex A7 architecture which is much newer compared to Cortex A5, so it will be a good idea to go for Karbonn Titanium S5 or Micromax Canvas HD which will be much better in terms of performance.

You can buy the device on Flipkart (Flipkart has titled it as ‘Galaxy Grand Quattro’).
