Sony Xperia Z1 with Snapdragon 800 and 20.7 MP camera officially announced

Sony Xperia Z1 the much awaited and hyped phone from Sony has been finally announced at IFA 2013 today in Berlin, Germany. The rumor mill performed exceptionally well and all the specs are in line with what was expected except the 4k camera recording. Also the official press released was leaked this morning which left little to speculate.

This much awaited phone comes with 5 Inch TRILUMINOUS display with Full HD 1080P Resolution. This promising 441 ppi display comes with X-Reality Engine which analyses each scene and gives it optimum color and contrast. TRILUMINOUS technology helps generate 50% more colors than traditional LCD.

This phone is powered Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad Core Processor ticking at 2.2 GHz. The RAM capacity assisting this beast is 2 GB and will be enough for Graphic intensive gaming and multi tasking. The internal storage in this device is 16 GB and not 32 GB as was earlier speculated. This can be further extended to 64 GB using a microSD card. The operating system employed is Android 4.2 Jelly bean.

The body of this phone is IP55 / IP58 certified which implies it is resistant to dust and water up to 5 feet for up to 30 mins. The OmniBalance Design body is quite sleek at 8.5 mm and made of single Aluminium frame with tempered glass on the front and back.  It weighs 170 grams which is slightly above average for a 5 Inch display device.

The camera of this device has been highlighted from day one and as the teaser promised, comes with G lens from Sony. These exceptional qality lenses are equivalent to high end Carl zeiss lens which we have seen in high end Lumia devices like Nokia Lumia 1020. This phone comes with an astonishing 20.7 MP Exmor RS sensor. The Exmor RS sensor is highly sensitive stacked sensor (takes less space) and is back illuminated like the Exmor R sensor from Sony. This camera is capable of full HD 1080p video recording but cant record 4k videos as was widely expected. Although the BIONZ image processor did make it to the device. The camera sensor is 1/2.3 inches which is nearly 70% larger than usual camera sensors and thus can capture more light for better low light performance.custom camera app with manual controls and impressive augmented reality features. A secondary camera of 2 MP is present on the front side and this too is capable of Full HD video recording!

The battery capacity is 3000 mAh and will and It comes with Stamina Mode from Sony using which you can expand your standby time manifolds. Connectivity features include 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 with APT-X, GPS/ GLONASS, MHL and NFC.

Acer liquid s2 was launched yesterday before IFA and became the first phone with 4k recording. Sony Xperia Z1 didn’t deliver on the expectation but remains the true star of the Xperia series. Unlike the last flagship device, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, this phone is easier to carry and just the right size with marvelous features and a promising display. The best of Sony did get better! This phone is rumored to launch in India next month and will be available for purchase globally from next month in Black, White and Purple color.
