Xolo Q600 was launched sometime ago when it was the cheapest quad core processor device with 512 MB of RAM and the display on the device is also quite ok if not big enough its 4.5 inch but the display technology does take a dip being a TFT display but again you cannot expect much being a low price segment budget android phone. Read on further to know whether this device is the best budget device and does it offer the value for money.

Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

The build quality at this price is good and it does not look cheap and the quality of plastic used on the phone is good and it has a glossy back cover with chrome lining on the edges which does give the device a kind of premium look. The design is not something unique but it looks really good and the phone have nice matte finish rounded edges which give a nice grip in hands. The form factor of the device is good enough and the weight of the device is around 147.7 grams which make it quite light in hands and the 4.5 inch display makes right in terms of size which is not too big and neither too small.

Display, Memory and Battery Backup

The display is something which did not impress us much as it has a TFT low resolution 480 x 854 display which may make things pixelated at times when you have large amount of text rendered on the screen, the viewing angles of the display are affected to some extent but not much, in terms of colors the display is good and vibrant if not the best. In built memory is about 4 Gb out of which around 1.77 GB is available to the user and you also have MicroSD card slot to expand the storage of the device and you can also move apps on the SD card and can also specify it as default write disk. The battery backup is around 1 day for moderate usage scenario.

Camera Performance

The rear camera is 5 MP with autofocus which performed good in day light photos but in low light we could see lot of noise in the photos, check out the camera samples below. The front camera is VGA which can be used for video chat and video calls but the video feed will be kind of hazy and you will need to hold the device steady during video chat.

Software, Benchmarks and Gaming

The software UI is stock android which is as snappy as it can be with this hardware, the UI transitions are smooth provided the Free RAM in the device is good, u might notice occasional lag in the UI. The gaming performance of the device is average due to low RAM which does limit the gaming experience a bit, heavy games like Frontline Commando D Day can run but with UI glitch, the benchmark scores are good which indicate that PowerVR SGX 554 MP GPU is capable enough to play the games.

Benchmark Scores

  • Quadrant Standard Edition: 4006
  • Antutu Benchmark: 13174
  • Nenamark2:  46.9 @ fps
  • Multi Touch:  5 point

Sound, Video and Navigation

Sound which comes form the loud speaker is loud enough, but because of the placement of the loud speaker is at the back side so it might get blocked but most of the time due to the vertical cut out the sound does not get blocked with fingers but it gets amplified. The device can play HD videos at 720p without any audio or video lag but not all 1080p videos are playable in the default video player on this device, you will need to install third party video players and enable hardware decoding to play 1080p videos on this device. The device can be used for Navigation as well with the help of assisted GPS but make sure to enable the same under location settings.

Conclusion and Price

Xolo Q600 is a decent value for money phone as per the price at which it comes, it comes for price of around Rs. 7,999 INR. You get a good display size, decent GPU and Quad core processor but slightly under powered RAM and the display is a also TFT but again you cant expect much from a budget android phone like this.
