Another addition to the budget dual core segment is the Signature Swift from popular domestic manufacturer Celkon. The device was launched a few days back along with 2 other devices, between which the Signature Swift sits, in terms of specifications as well as price. The device is priced at 8,799 INR, which is a little on the higher side when compared to other smartphones with similar specifications. The device will face competition from a number of devices, with most of them featuring the Micromax logo.
Let us go ahead with the quick review.
Camera and Internal Storage
The phone an impressive 8MP unit, while some other devices in the price range max out at 5MP. This unit should probably be good enough for your casual photography needs during daytime. In low-light conditions, however, you might feel the need for a (much) better camera. This is a trend spotted in most devices from domestic and Chinese manufacturers, daylight performance is usually good while low-light imaging leaves a lot to be desired.
The device features a 1.3MP front facing camera, which again is a little above average since many phones come with VGA shooters on the front. The front camera will suffice for video chat use, while it may have something in surprise for those who look for a decent front facing camera for taking self portraits.
Storage on the device comprises of the run of the mill 4GB on-board ROM, which we see on almost every budget device of today. Just like those devices, the Celkon Signature Swift, too is capable of expanding storage up to 32GB via microSD. This is something which will invariably be used by most.
Processor and Battery
The phone features a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, believed to be the MT6577 from none other than MediaTek. The processor has proved its mettle over the years, and has been among the most popular dual core processors of late due to its processing power and the fact that it is available for a very low cost.
You will be able to play and enjoy games like Angry Bird, Bad Piggies, and the likes. You will, however, be disappointed if you wish to enjoy games like NOVA 3 and Battlefield on this device. The processor + GPU combination simply isn’t potent enough to handle the graphics.
The Celkon Signature Swift features a standard battery of 2000mAh which should take you through one day without any hassles in most cases. However if you tend to use your phone for a long time (over 3 hours of screen on time), you will probably have to use the charger by the time the sun sets.
Display and Features
Another common trend is 5 inch displays, among budget phones. While slightly pricier devices come with 720p displays, ones costing under 10k INR usually feature WVGA or FWVGA displays, which is the case with the Signature Swift as well. The phone comes with a 5 inch screen featuring a resolution of 854×480 pixels, also known as FWVGA. The device will be good for most general purpose usage such as browsing the internet, chat, etc. while movies and multimedia will be fairly enjoyable as well. However, if you have ever used a 5 inch 720p phone, you are bound to feel a difference.
The device will come preinstalled with Android v4.2 which is a good sign. Battery management and app compatibility is bound to be better on the device. The Holo UI makes transitions simple and smooth, which most users seem to like.
Looks and Connectivity
The device looks a bit different from other budget devices in its range. The simple and flat look, we think, will go well with Android’s 2-dimensional design.
The phone comes with the regular connectivity set, including WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G, etc. True to the budget category, the phone features dual SIM support as well.
Comparison
The phone will have a tonne of competitors, including Samsung Galaxy Core, LG Optimus L5 Dual, Sony Xperia U, Fly Mobile F45s, etc.

Conclusion
The device does seem impressive with the imaging hardware and the dual core processor. The device will probably find buyers who’re on a tight budget, since it might be a better idea to get a quad core device for about 9,500 INR (about 800 INR extra). However, for those looking for their first Android phone for under 10k INR, the device might be a good one. Celkon’s hardware and build quality is about as good as any other domestic brand so that should make it easier for you.
