Lenovo launched 4 new phones recently and we covered the Lenovo A850 Quick Review for our readers. On the second rung of the ladder lies Lenovo A516 and this comes with a significantly lower price tag of Rs. 10,999. How far have the specs been trimmed down to accommodate the budget? Let’s find out
Camera and Internal Storage
This phone also sports a 5 MP primary camera with LED flash similar to Lenovo A850 and the at this price range you can easily get an 8 MP camera, but as we know camera quality is much more than the MP count. A front VGA camera is also present in this device. Lenovo has not yet specified the video recording capability of these cameras so far.
The Internal Storage of this device is the standard 4 GB which is what we see in almost all phones from the range of 5,000 INR to 15,000 INR. The internal storage can be increased to 32 GB using a MicroSD card.
Processor and Battery
The processor of this smartphone has been heavily cut down From 1.3 GHz quad core in A850 to 1.3 GHz Dual core processor, something which we see in the budget segment phones like Micromax Canvas Fun A74. Many phones like XOLO Q800 will provide you with a quad core processor in this price range.
The GPU assisting this processor is Mali 400 GPU which again is pretty old now if you are a serious gamer, though the same GPU is used in popular smartphones like Note 2 and will perform reasonably well for most users. The dual core processor will be backed by a humble 512 MB RAM which is disappointing at this price range.
Lenovo did not mention the battery capacity in its India press release but promised whooping 23 hours of talk time from this device. This accounts for an Impressive battery backup which will make this phone jump ranks in the precedence list of many people.
Display and Features
This phone sports a 4.5 Inch IPS LCD Display which will easily fit in your hands and pockets. The display resolution is FWVGA 854 X 480 Pixels which gives you 217 ppi which is again somewhat above average at this price range and similar to what we see in phones like XOLO Q600.
The phone runs on Android 4.2 jelly bean operating system and supports Dual SIM Dual Standby functionality.
Looks and Connectivity
Not much information is available regarding the looks and connectivity features of this phone as of yet. From the official pictures this phone looks similar to A850 in terms of body design. A circular bulging camera cutout is present at the back panel which is a differentiating factor.
Connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS with AGPS support. More information about the connectivity features will be available when these devices make it to the shelves which can be expected sometime later this month.
Comparison
This phone will receive stiff competition from Quad core devices like Intex Aqua i5, XOLO Q800, XOLO Q700 and Karbonn S5 Titanium along with various others. Dual core competition includes phones like Videocon A53, Swipe MTV Volt 1000 and Samsung Galaxy core.
