The Nexus 7 2013 tablet is a great improvement over Nexus 7 first generation and comes with a Cool price tag. This new tablet will soon find its way to India as is evident from the price listing on the Google Playstore. The first generation Nexus 7 16 GB WiFi at 9,999 is raining fire at the below 10k range and let’s take a look at what the new revamped Nexus 7 is offering.
Camera and Internal Storage
The Nexus 7 has a 5 MP Autofocus camera at the back which is a first in Nexus line of tablets. Most people are not comfortable clicking pics with their large screen tablets, but with the gap between smartphones and 7 inch tablets closing in too fast, Inclusion of camera made sense.
The 5 MP camera capable of full HD recording sports a decent pixel count and we expect the camera to be a good addition to the Nexus line. The 1.2 MP front camera is also present for video recording.
The internal storage options are 16 GB and 32 GB (No 8 GB this time) and with Android 4.3 using features like fstrim, you can extract better performance from the storage. The Internal storage is not expandable. The USB OTG is supported but we are not sure yet if it will have support for Flash drive.
Processor and Battery
The processor used in the new Nexus 7 is 1.5 GHz Quad core Snapdragon S4 pro, and the processor also comes with better Krait 300 cores in place of Krait 200 which are expected in S4 Pro SoC. This makes it similar to Snapdragon 600 but with a lower clock frequency. The processor coupled with 2 GB of RAM will provide you with effective performance. The GPU used is Adreno 320 which will lead to capable handling of full HD resolution while executing demanding apps.
The Battery capacity has been reduced compared to Nexus 7 first generation to 3950 mAh, but the battery performance has not. ASUS and Google have worked together on power optimization and improved idle time power consumption which will give you improved battery performance in spite of smaller battery capacity and more power consuming display.
Display and Feature
The display of this tablet is pretty impressive. The 7 inch display comes with 1920 x 1200 full HD resolution which gives you 323 Pixel per inches, which implies a sharp high end display. Google has worked hard to get the color rendition accurate and has adopted two step calibration process , once by the panel maker and once during final manufacturing. The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass which makes it resistant to scratches.
The phone runs on Android 4.3 jelly bean operating system out of the box and will soon receive Android 4.4 KitKat OTA update.
Looks and Connectivity
The New Nexus 7 has glass at the front and plastic at the back, which looks pretty attractive in pictures. The tablet has also been slimmed down to 8.7 mm and weighs 290 grams.
The connectivity features include Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with A-GPS support and WiFi. 3G and LTE is supported on the 32 GB variant priced at 25,999 INR.
Comparison
The tablet stands apart and above the competition offered by the other Android tablets like Asus Fonepad 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, Micromax Canvas Tab P560, etc. which you can opt for incase you can’t do without a SIM card slot. The main competition will be the Nvidia Tegra 4 based Xolo Tegra Note, which Nvidia claims to be the fastest 7 inch tablet which will be launched soon in India.

Conclusion
The New Nexus 7 tablets have awe-inspiring spec sheet at a decent price which is a deadly combination.The 16 GB WiFi and 32 GB WiFi are priced at $229 and $269 as of now. If you need 3G, LTE connectivity you have to shell out some extra money. If you are fine with tethering your Mobile internet while on the move, Nexus 7 seems to be the best at the respective price range and otherwise too as of now.
