Windows Phone 8.1 will bring ‘Universal Apps’ and Several Other New Features

Windows Phone is fast gaining popularity and going by the latest leaks the platform will receive some major upgrade with the Windows 8.1 update. We already talked about the upcoming notification center, dubbed as Action center and now a Windows phone developer has revealed some of the features of Windows 8.1 as evident from Windows 8.1 SDKs which Microsoft has allegedly started distributing.

The major highlight is the support for shared HTML and JavaScript on apps, which will allow developers to build apps compatible with both Windows and Windows phone eco system. This will be the first step towards merging Windows RT and Windows phone operating system.

The Windows Phone 8.1 will let users choose from various messaging apps too. There will be a Battery Sense feature to monitor battery life along with Storage Sense feature which lets you decide where you wish to install apps – SD card or internal memory.

Windows Phone will also feature enhanced multi tasking. Pressing Back button will send the apps to background instead of closing them. There will be a new camera layout as well, which is not something unexpected. The


Other features include support for software buttons, which you can slide away to use full display. Microsoft will launch the final version of Windows 8.1 at build 2014 conference and till then we expect to see various other new features of Windows 8.1 revealed by developers working on these SDKs. For now, the new Windows 8.1 has got our undivided attention.
