Gionee has sliently established itself as a premium brand of budget smartphones and has done a pretty good job of it. It has some really value for money offerings in its line-up in India and the same is ready to be joined by the Elife S5.5 (Hands on Review), which is the world’s slimmest smartphone in the month of March itself for a price tag of around Rs 20,000-22,000. Here’s a quick review of the device.
Camera and Internal Storage
Gionee has ensured that it gave the Elife S5.5 an imaging unit that the competition will have a hard time matching up to. It gets a It 13MP uto focus rear camera which comes with a stacked Sony sensor and an LED flash, thus allowing for some really good picture quality. The front camera unit is a 5MP camera which has a 95 degree wide lens.
The Elife S5.5 gets an internal storage of 16GB but the same is not expandable and this might just be an issue for many. There’s 2GB of RAM on offer for multitasking and running RAM-intensive applications as well.
Processor and Battery
Under the hood of the Elife S5.5 is a 1.7 GHz Octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor coupled with Mali 450-MP4 GPU and this is pretty much what you get in the Intex Aqua Octa and Canvas Knight, though the later gets clocked at 2GHz. It won’t disappoint you in the processing department and will keep all the photo buffs happy.
Gionee has done welll to put in a 2,300 mAh battery in the Elife S5.5 considering the fact that it is a pretty slim unit. The battery is a non-removable unit and its exact battery figures have not been released as of now by the company. We expect the device to last about a day with moderate usage on a single charge.
Display and Features
The Elife S5.5 gets a 5 inch full HD display which is a Super AMOLED unit and has a pixel density of 441 ppi. Expect really sharp reproduction of colours and an amazing display unit.
Its one of the most important feature is that it is just 5.5 mm thick, which makes it the world’s slimmest smartphone. It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Amigo 2.0 Interface on top of it. It gets 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB OTG for added connectivity.
Comparison
It will have the Micromax Canvas Knight and Intex Aqua Octa as its chief competitors with the former being the true competitor due to a really close set of specs. Considering the expected price range, it will also compete with Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, Nokia Lumia 1320 and Nexus 4
