MT6591 Karbonn Titanium Hexa Hands on Quick Review, Features, Camera, Software, Benchmarks [Video]

Design and Build

The Karbonn Titanium Hexa is quite sleek at 6.9 mm body thickness and that coupled with the light weight makes it comfortable to hold in spite of the large form factor. The look and feel is quite premium and the dual shaded metallic back adds to the premium finish.

The speaker grill is present at the back, which implies you can expect some sound muffled sound when its resting on its back. The back cover is not removable. You can remove the top part of the device which houses the camera sensor to insert SIM card and microSD card.

Display

In the display department, Karbonn is trying to follow all the current trends. The display technology used is LTPS which makes is supposedly provides faster and more integrated display by replacing amorphous silicon with Low Temperature Poly Silicon.

The viewing angles were wide and good, and the full HD resolution rendered all that desirable crispness to images. We also liked the color reproduction. The display looks better than what is present on Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus, also launched today, and is protected by scratch resistant glass and oleophobic coating (to resist fingerprints)

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear camera comes with a 13 MP sensor and is supported by LED flash. Karbonn doesn’t highlight any particular camera technology but the camera quality was better than most 13 MP units that we have seen on domestic manufactured devices, most of which are powered by MT6589 and MT6589T chipstet.

The internal storage is 16 GB and can be extended to 32 GB using microSD card slot. The storage option is very good considering the price tag and should keep everyone happy.

Battery, OS and Chipset

The battery used is 2050 mAh unit and we are not very optimistic about it considering the fact that it will have to power a full HD display. Karbonn has not specified the battery backup which this battery will provide.

The operating system used is Android 4.4 Kitkat operating system. Karbonn is one of the first (Other one being Wickedleaks) domestic manufacturer to provide resource friendly and power efficient Android KitKat operating system out of the box. The chipset used is 1.47 GHz MT6591 True Hexa core chipset from Taiwanese Giant MediaTek, Which employs the powerful Mali 450 GPU and 2 GB RAM. The chipset is definitely superior to the last generation MT6589 series chipsets. The Antutu Score we got on the prototype version was 21000 and Nenamark score was 55.6 fps- both being above average.

Conclusion

Karbonn Titanium Hexa looks like a good value for money device at Rs. 16,990. Powerful Chipset, bright and crisp display, 16 GB internal storage, 2 GB RAM, USB OTG support and Android 4.4 KitKat – all add to the desirability factor for this smartphone. Only concern is the 2050 mAh battery. This is a crucial area where most domestic players have failed to impress. If the battery can provide with one day moderate usage, the phone would be a viable option for those looking for a 5.5 inch full HD phablet display at a modest price.
