Update 27-3-14: Samsung has used Exynos 5 Octa with 4 cortex A 15 cores clocked at 1.9 GHz and 4 cortex A7 clocked at 1.3 GHz. This is most probably the same processor used in S4 but with Hpm enabled, so that all 8 cores can be used simultaneously. Samsung has not officially confirmed the technical details of the chipset.
Samsung has focused more on user experience rather than loading its new flagship phone Samsung Galaxy S5 (Initial Hands on Review), with all that software which most people will use once and forget. The new Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched in India today and will be available starting April 11 with a price tag ranging between 51,500 and 53,000 INR. The price is not at par with Galaxy S4 launch price as was previously reported. Samsung also launched Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit.
Under the hood, you will get Exynos True Octa core processor backed with 2 GB of RAM on board. This is the first time we are seeing Exynos processor with HPM to enable “True Octa Core” functionality. It is not yet clear if it employs Exynos 5422 or 5420 same as previous generation Galaxy S4. The internal storage is 16 GB and can be further extended to 128 GB using microSD support.
The phone does have IP67 water resist certification and a finger print scanner and a beautiful 5.1 Inch super AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display is further protected by corning gorilla glass 3.
Also onboard are Fitness features integrated in S Health 3.0. These include comprehensive fitness tracker, pedometer, diet and exercise records and a heart rate monitor.
The 16 MP shooter at the back with autofocus time of only 0.3 seconds is at par with what you expect in a flagship phone from tier one manufacturer, armed with several software enhancements including refocus. The front 2 MP camera is also capable of full HD video recording.
The 2800 mAh battery is equipped with an ultra power saver mode, which HTC One M8 also borrows. Connectivity features include HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, aGPS, GLONASS, NFC and Micro USB 3.0. Samsung has also included a private mode where you can hide your private images.
