There is doubt that the Chinese manufacturers are finding the Indian smartphone market as their second home as the segment is rapidly booming with innumerous offerings. It can be said that these phones from the neighborhood are competing hard with the ones that are launched by the homegrown vendors. Lately, China based Huawei that has a good portfolio of products in India has released two phones – Ascend G730 and Ascend Y600 respectively. Of the duo, the cheapest one is Ascend Y600 priced at Rs 8,999 and here we analyze the features and specifications of this dual SIM device.
Camera and Internal Storage
The Ascend Y600 is given a basic camera set comprising of a 5 MP rear camera and a VGA front-facer. This is pretty much on the low-end scale and comes only with average video recording capabilities and is suitable for basic video chatting sessions without much focus on the quality.
The handset packs an internal storage capacity of 4 GB which is small, but acceptable for its pricing. Again, one has to keep in mind that only a portion of this storage will be accessible to the users. However, there is a micro SD card slot on the handset that can let users to add additional storage up to 32 GB.
Processor and Battery
The Ascend Y600 comes with a dual-core MediaTek MT6572 processor running at 1.3 GHz clock speed accompanied by 512 MB of RAM. Given that the budget smartphones are coming up with aspiring hardware specs, it would have been great if Huawei could have incorporated a quad-core chipset and 1 GB of RAM.
A 2,100 mAh battery is available in the Ascend Y600 to meet the power requirements of the smartphone. Though the backup delivered by this battery is still not disclosed by the vendor, it is believed to provide a decent life to the dual-core phone.
Display and Features
The handset features a 5 inch FWVGA capacitive touch screen display with a resolution of 854×480 pixels that translates to a low pixel density of 196 pixels per inch. As the display is large measuring 5 inches it would have been great if the vendor had packed increased screen resolution. As a result of the low resolution, the handset is not capable of displaying good levels of clarity.
The Ascend Y600 is based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system topped with the company’s Emotion UI. For connectivity, the handset packs basic features including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G.
Comparison
Speaking of competition, the Ascend Y600 will enter a direct rivalry with other phones such as Micromax Canvas Juice A77, Karbonn A21+ and Lava Iris 505 as all of them fall in the same price bracket and come with almost identical specifications.

Price and Conclusion
Huawei Ascend Y600 bears a tempting price tag of Rs 8,999, but there are innumerable offerings that already exist with similar specs in the same price range. Though the large 5 inch display is a luring factor the lack of increased screen resolution and poor raw hardware aspects such as less cores and low RAM are major downsides for this handset.
