LG G3 Rumor Roundup: What We Know So Far About the Flagship Phone Launching on May 27

South Korean tech giant LG’s next big-ticket smartphone and the successor of LG G2 is all set to be officially announced on May 27 in six simultaneous events. Also, the entire tech media is fanatically waiting to witness what the handset has in it. Usually, when a smartphone’s release draws closer, more rumors surrounding it start gushing into the tech world. Here we come up with a roundup of all the speculations of LG G3.

Design

As the G3 is the sequel to the LG G2 launched last year, it is expected to feature some revamp in terms of design, but it is unlikely to witness huge differences between the two. As per the latest image leaks showing the design of the handset, it seems to have a plastic casing and front-facing speakers. Also, the rear panel will be housing the power and volume controls.

Display

The South Korean manufacturer will be giving its flagship smartphone a 5.5 inch display with 2K resolution that results in a screen resolution of 2560×1440 and an eye-popping pixel density of 534 pixels per inch. This pixel density is definitely large enough to deliver sharp and vibrant content on the screen.

If this gossip turns out to be true, the LG G3 will perhaps boast the best smartphone display. Of course, it will not be the only one in the market as the other vendors will also be launching such offerings soon in order to stay ahead in the race.

There are speculations that the handset could boast buttons that are horizontally placed to the left of the camera module. Also, the leak a golden colored retail box of the LG G3 tips that the handset will also come in a golden color variant.

Hardware

LG G3 is likely to include the latest hardware and it could be one of the best smartphones to include the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974-AB SoC, which was also used in Xperia Z2. The Snapdragon 801 processor has plenty of power and it is similar to the latest Snapdragon 805 in terms of image processing. The main difference between the two comes in the field of 3D gaming.

The handset is said to arrive in two configurations – 16 GB of native storage with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage with 3 GB of RAM respectively. The option of a micro SD expansion card slot is not ruled out and hence, we would definitely like to witness support for up to 128 GB of expandable storage like the other flagship models.

Camera

It is reasonable enough to expect the presence of the OIS+ technology in the LG G3 as it is included in the latest offering – LG G Pro 2. The upcoming flagship model is said to include a 13 MP primary shooter at its rear with the aforementioned tech for software based image stabilization. However, the inclusion of a 16 MP camera sensor at the back is not ruled out as reports suggest that there could be a 16 MP snapper on the G3. Rumors also hint that this snapper will come with usual features such as 4K video recording and slow motion video recording at 120 fps, that no surprise these days.

Software

Since quite sometime, there have been reports circulating across the web suggesting that LG will be including a softer and flattened version of the Optimus UI on top of the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. As flatter icons are the trend these days and they have been followed by other tech titans such as Samsung, Apple, Microsoft and Google, LG seems to have revamped its UI to stay updated. It is also rumored that the interface of the LG G3 will have advanced personalization options that can go beyond the Google Now capabilities.

Fingerprint Scanner

Latest feature addition in the high-end smartphones is the fingerprint scanner that can be found on other flagship models such as HTC One Max, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Apple iPhone 5s. Hence, it is also gossiped that the LG G3 could feature a fingerprint scanner at its back panel similar to the HTC offering. There is increased possibility for the inclusion of this feature as LG has done a pretty good job in competing hard with its challengers.

Water Resistant and Dust Proof

Besides incorporating a finger print scanner, most of the Android flagship models also come with water resistant and dust proof design. As other high-end models such as Sony Xperia Z2, Samsung Galaxy S5 and many other models feature such a design, LG is also tipped to take the benefit of the same with its LG G3.

LG-Google Nexus 6

Recent reports in the tech media suggest that Google that has teamed with LG for 2 years consecutively will also do so this year to announce the Nexus 6 based on LG G3. As Google has achieved enough success in the past two years with the South Korean firm made Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, there appears to be no reason for the search engine giant to switch the maker for its upcoming Nexus phone.
