Samsung appears to be veering away from the consumer-centric tablet launches as the vendor has unleashed a new slate aimed at the educational sector. The new tablet device dubbed Galaxy Tab 4 Education featuring a rugged chassis and it is priced at $369.99.
Talking about the technical specifications, the Galaxy Tab 4 Education features a 10.1 inch TFT capacitive touch screen display boasting a WXGA resolution of 1280×800 pixels layered with Corning Gorilla Glass protection to prevent from scratches and damage.
Fueled by Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, the slate is powered by a quad-core processor ticking at 1.2 GHz coupled with 1.5 GB of RAM for efficient multi-tasking. Storage needs are met by 16 GB of default storage space that can be expanded externally up to 64 GB with the help of a micro SD card slot. Also on board is a 3 MP primary camera at the back teamed up with a 1.3 MP front-facing snapper for making video calls.
Connectivity is handled by a slew of standard features such as Wi-Fi, NFC, HDMI and Bluetooth 4.0 and there is a juicy 6,800 mAh battery under the hood that should be sufficient to pump a decent backup.
Besides these technical specs, the device also includes software features such as ChatON, Multi-Window, Voice Call, Samsung Kies, HW Key, Group Play, Samsung Link and Samsung apps. Furthermore, Samsung will be offering a free silicone case along with the tablet to add to its durability. Being an educational tablet, the Galaxy Tab 4 Education is compatible with SamsungSchool that allows teachers to monitor the activities of the students. The SamsungSchool is available on Google Apps for Education web console and it is priced at $30.
At this point of time, the Galaxy Tab 4 Education is launched for U.S. and there is no word on its global availability or pricing.
