Toshiba appears to be all set to rival with the other tablet manufactures across the world. It was only in the last week that the firm announced a budget Android tablet called Excite Go with a price tag of $110. Now, the company has come up with Windows 8.1 offering at the Computex 2014 to battle the Android tablets prevailing in the market.
The latest slate from the vendor – Toshiba Encore 7 is developed with Microsoft and Intel in order to prove that it is not a necessity to use ARM for affordable slates. The vendor has closely worked with the software giant to deliver an amazing user experience.
Going by the name, the Toshiba Encore 7 flaunts a 7 inch display packing a resolution of 1024×600 pixels and is stuffed with a quad-core Intel Atom Z3735 processor clocked at 1.3 GHz. While there is 1 GB of RAM backing the processor, the tablet also has 16 GB of native storage support that can be expanded further with the help of a micro SD card. It features a front-facing camera like the other budget tablets, but the resolution of the same remains unspecified.
As the Android tablets are pretty popular in owing to their low price tags, Microsoft has been keenly prepping to cut down the price of Windows tablets. In order to do the same, the Redmond based firm announced the Windows RT platform, but there were confusions on which applications will run on this OS making the OEMs to move away from the platform.
While the pricing of the Toshiba Encore 7 does not have a clear price tag we cannot conclude that Microsoft has finally come up with a Windows 8.1 based affordable tablet. However, Toshiba’s Encore 8 with costs $200 triggering speculations of a $150 price tag for the Encore 7. If the tablet is priced more or less at this range, it will definitely be an affordable alternative to the Android tablets. Also, Microsoft has to be coming up with more such low-cost tablets in order to fight with the widespread Android ecosystem.
